Our illustrious Governer has just signed
a new landmark bill into law.
It seems that now any prospective
landlord is not allowed to ask the legal
status of any immigrant.
It was Bill 975:Calderon. I'm not sure
if this covers all ethnic groups or just
latinos.
I do not know the legal recourse if
a landlord asks (or demands) to know
whether a person is actually a citizen
or not.
I'm not going to give my opinion because I want to hear yours (honestly.)
On this site, you have freedom of
speech (sometimes.)

GW: You forgot something. What's the deal

Last Thanksgiving, my friend and I were walking home from the store. A 5 ton covered
truck pulled in behind a store and out jumped
about 20 young Mexicans straight from the
border. They ran into a trailer park. I told the
police but nothing was done.

GW hit the nail on the head. I live in Florida and have lived in Atlanta, Georgia quite a bit. I have nothing against legal aliens. But have seen construction sites with 20-50 mexicans living in tents in the woods, cooking over campfires. Yell Imigration and everyone takes off running. The few I have talked with DO send 75-80% of the money they make home to family. One man I knew had an auto parts business and junk yard in Mexico. He and his large crew hang sheetrock in highrises 6-8 months of the year. Go home to Mexico for the cold months and return illegally in the spring. The whole while I know sheetrock hangers and finishers that are out of work due to building slow downs and the high foreclosure rates. The local hospitals are very busy with pregnant illegals and their small children. Yet my grandchildren cannot afford medical insurance. It would be $75 a week per child. My daughter can;t stand to lose $300 twice a month for insurance yet she is not eligible for assistance. There is something very wrong with this picture. We need to unite and write as GW suggests.

I own a mobile home. There are renters here too Whereas I rent the lot, they actually rent the mobile homes as well . The current owner wants to make life so miserable for the homeowners that they will abandon their homes so that the park owners acquire them then lease the out to Mexicans. They pay dearly even though they can have sometimes -12 people in a 3 bedroom mobile home,

My political views are so far left they are over the fence and out of the ball park. On this issue I stand with the conservatives. Anyone that comes into this country illegally is a criminal. If they have no more respect for our nation than to enter illegally they will not have enough respect to obey the law once in. In my book, any politician who supports criminals for the sake of a few votes is a traitor. We are supposed to be a "nation of laws not men." Lets keep it that way.

If illegals effect you positively you like em ,negatively you hate em as for me in TEXAS I just accept that they are here, they have always been here, and they always will be here and Goldwing your too cool of a dude to get worked up to where you "could just scream" hop on that bike and take a drive in the mountains
this subject is like talkin about the weather it aint gonna change and it aint worth gettin worked up over

i do believe that Goldwing has said it all
in his usual eloquent manner
he is a man with much experience and infinite wisdom

the situation isn't as bad where i live, but it is getting worse with every passing day

another thing that I personally don't think is right
they come over the border just before their due date and sometimes from what i have read even in labor and have their babies here because they are automatically citizens just from being born here - doesn't matter what their parents' status is - so they automatically become eligible for benefits

I would want to know if I were renting to illegals. That way you know that your home could be empty at a drop of a hat.Where I live the LA gangs are coming here also. But I have to say, they can afford to pay the rent.I live on a budget and have to make ends meet,so I could never afford to live like them. What American dream are they chasing?I know of several people that got their green card to come here, then came...

Well, here is the fact.

Only the Federal Government can make and enforce Immigration Law. States, counties and towns cannot do it.

All of these knee-jerk reactionary places who try to pass these discriminatory laws all get shot down at the judicial level.

It is a FEDERAL matter - period.

What would they want to do next? Ask what religion you are? Ask your sexual preference? Are they going to refuse to rent to you if they don't like your ethnicity, religion or sexual orientation? Will they refuse to rent to divorced people or people who plan on having children?

There are Constitutional issues here that must be dealt with by Washington. Everybody else just needs to chill out and get off the race thing..

All "George" and I had when we got married were 5 kids between us. We had to rent for many years, and I'm still thankful to the landlords that gave our large family a chance, especially with just one paycheck coming in. My thought is that even tho' I believe in fair housing, this bill leaves most landlords and their investment unprotected. We've seen it here in our area...where the illegals suddenly just up and leave and the landlord is left in a lurch. If a landlord can ask for proof of employment and ability to pay, do a credit check, and ask the prospective renters for references....then he/she should be allowed to ask about citizenship if necessary.

Well, back in the 60's it was a tactic used by landlords to discriminate against people , for their nationality, Not sure when that was suppose to have stopped, for in many cases, it hasn't . But, legal or not legal, people do need a roof over their head, and if they can pay the price, it is wrong to deny them a place to live.
