No it doesn't count, but your right it is great practice.
I actually just finished taking the PSAT just yesterday.
I've tooken the test actually twice, sophomore and this year.
I'm a junior and I will be taking the real SAT soon and
not only does the PSAT help you get a feel of what the
real thing will be like but it also offers alot of chances for
colleges to start looking at you- that is if you get high
scores. Juniors mainly take it now-a-days to try and
receive the National Merits Scholarship.

It's important to take so that you'll know what the SAT is going to be like later. It's a serious practice test and gives you the areas that you need to seriously study before you take the all important SAT.

it doesnt count against you, its just practice for the real thing, which you'd probably do better the more times you see the test. But if you do well on it, they're scholarships and awards, if you're a junior anyway. If not, you still get the practice and "feel" of it =]

In 9th and 10th it is worth nothing except to help you prepare for the SAT & ACT and to help you prepare to take it in 11th. When you take it in 11th, if you do well enough, then you can get scholarships and the scores will be sent to some prestegious universities so they can contact you about attending there. Also, you can compete for the national merit scholarship in your 11th grade year if you take the test. Try to take it all 3 years if possible. I did and it really does help. It teaches you how to study well for that type of test.

If you do well on the PSAT there are some scholarships to be won. Ask your school counselor.

If you are a junior and you get a very high score you can be chosen as a National Merit Scholar, but that's it. It doesn't count for anything, it doesn't even go on your transcript.

No. Once you take the SAT nobody will care what you got on the PSAT.

I took that the other day for about 3 hours! I think it is just preparation and gives us a glimpse of what the SAT is like...plus ...it's kinda fun!
