I am a single father I raise my 29 month old son. I broke off my relationship with my ex in Apr. 2006. Caught her with another man. She bothered me for about a month after. It stopped when she realized there was no chance of reconciliation. I have not heard from her since 2 weeks before our sons birthday (June 10, 2006). She has not attempted to see our boy since then. No contact whatsoever. I have been trying to obtain custody of my son with no success.
I went to Sask. provincial family services - no luck. I went to numerous other agencies - no luck. I went to lawyers on three occasions - no luck
I am told there is not a thing can be done, as in the laws of Canada the mother is considered the primary caregiver until proven otherwise by courts.
I work full time, supporting him is not a problem. He is the world to me and it is very upsetting when I want to keep and love him, he can be taken away from me at any time by a mother who ABANDONED HIM. Any advice - PLEASE HELP

If she abandoned her son for all this time and you have been taking care of him all this time, then when the moment comes, u need to go and battle her *** in court for the custody of your son. Personally, i think she's an unfit mother for abandoning her son in the first place. If you can only prove this to the court, im pretty sure u have a good chance of winning. Good luck!

If you can afford it and that is how the law works in Canada, then I would get the hell out of dodge...so to speak. I know in America that if you abandon your child then the court frowns on your trying to get the said child back. If not I would go and appeal for custody on numerous occasions..DO NOT GIVE UP!! Fathers deserve to raise the kids just as much as the mother. And obviously she has no intent on return, even to see your son. I would make sure you are keeping a journal and note every day she is gone with no contact, every time she tries to make contact, everytime her family makes contact (grandparents), keep a note about everything!! Make it very detailed; keep receipts, just make sure you are covering YOUR BUTT and YOUR SONS BUTT!! Do not allow this if you can.

You need to hire lawyer, and explain your situation, I'm sorry that that I don't have more information for you, but just focus on taking care of your son, there isn't a court that is going to give a mother who just walked away from her son custody, look up a family lawyer and make sure you keep track how long she has been gone without a phone call or any contact. don't give up the fight. Good luck.

How heartbreaking for you. That nothing can be done is horrendous and laws should be changed to correct it.

Meantime, dad, you have the joy of bringing up your son to be the child, young man and adult you can be proud of and know that he is all that because of your love and teachings and guidance to be all he can and will be. Nothing and no one can take that away from you.

If you are a praying man or have friends who pray, nothing is impossible with God and things can change even if now it seems impossible but with God, don't rule it out.Your son will be of age before you know it and the "mother" has no interest now so pray it stays that way til he is grown and on his own and you two will have an awesome relationship nothing and no one can tear apart. God bless you,"Drew's Dad".

Unless she can show that she is able to support him
to the law standards
Have you filed for divorce claiming her a unfit
mother, and abounded the wright to be a mother,
by leaving the child with out a mothers love..
Have a lawyer file the paper work,to have the court
name you soul provider.Have your paper work
up to date.
There's always a way just look for it.don't get
discouraged and give up.

How in the name of God can you support your case without being able to see a lawyer and go to court? It seems to me that the mother of your son isn't interested in his well being or anything else if she is not in his life at all. She is not a good caregiver and you have got to find a way to show this to the courts. Good luck to you.

Have you seen or spoken to a lawyer? You could have her charged with abandoning her child or negligence of her child. If she has had no contact with him, I suggest you speak to a lawyer about your options. This situation you are in so sad because you sound like a very caring father.
Wish you the best of luck.

Get in touch with your local representatives in your national government and ask for assistance. Here in the states our Representatives have the ability to get things started to aid their constituents with problems like these. I would get in touch with your TV and newspaper reporters who would probably want to interview you as a hard working father who could lose his son to a woman that is unfit to be a mother.

Find a way to prove the mom is incapable to being a decent mother. Does she drink, smoke or is irresponsible? Make a list of her worst qualities or maybe her lifestyle harms the child. Find a way to prove that you are the only one capable to take care of that child.
