........my department was transferred to an agency that I hate. We were told at orientation that if we don't like the idea of someone looking over our shoulders, then we may not like working for them. I promised myself I'd give it a shot, but 19 days in, they've lost 30% of the workforce they inherited. Our positions were reclassified and we're basically being hinted to go else where.

I'm a little apprehensive about leaving because I was 24 when I was hired, and now I'm 30. Not only that, I'm still working on my education and a degree is a MUST for most jobs. It's a new ball game and I'm not sure if I have what it takes to compete. Don't get me wrong, I know there's something out there for me, I'm just not sure what the next step is. Has anyone gone through this? How did you handle it?

Start looking for something else right away and then turn in your resignation. There is something out there for you. Don't give up. I lost my job in February, I had also been there for 6 years and had worked my way up...new company came in and everything changed, they walked in one day and let me go. I looked around and finally found something else that I am liking. The pay is not as much, but there is room to move up.Have faith in yourself. You are young. I am in my 50's and I did it.

Culture change is always very difficult to deal with in any job. I haven't had the same experience as you but had similar difficulty with a management change after one of my bosses quit.

The fact of the matter is that you are working for yourself, not the company. If you do not like the situation you are in, you need to consider finding a new position with people you can work with.

I wouldn't feel bad about changing jobs. It happens all the time and in fact It's almost becoming expected that an individual will change jobs a few times in their life.

Whatever you decide, good luck. I know you will make the right decision.

I moved on, I worked at a place where there was a high rate of turnover (I was the last original worker). Just keep looking for a career that you have a passion for. If your entrepreneurial and good with people, you might want to try MLM (Multi Level Marketing. Its not easy, but its a refreshing change from your normal 9 to 5.

Tioshara, I have been through a similar situation. Basically they want you to leave but they dare not fire you, because they are afraid that they may have to compensate you or you may damage their reputation when you take them to court, so they try to make your life as miserable as possible so that you would leave on your own.
Your first instinct is to leave, that's okay but plan your departure carefully, leave when your have found another job which is equivalent or better in pay and/or conditions as this job.
Until you have found that better job, stick it out no matter if they are looking over your shoulders, or staring at you or whatever. Remember, they are doing this because they dare not fire you.

I was laid off in July & haven't found a job yet--so be smart & don't quit until you have accepted another job. You never know how long it will take you to find something, especially if you need one that offers tuition assistance.
