I'm happy, I'm not a Red sox fan but I hate the Yankees and it's nice to see a future hall of famer not come back. They cut his pay from 7.5mill or 5mill for 1 year with the second year opt out, he wasnt having that and I'm really happy. It's a catch-22 because now they could lose Posada, Rivera, A-Rod, and Pettite

Joe Torre wanted to manage for the Yanks in 2009, but this was not guaranteed w/ his deal, he would've only had an option for a second year if he made the World Series.

Two possibilities: The Yankees have lost the perspective of Torre's track record over the last 12 years and are only looking at the last 3 years or they want to bring Mattingly along and recognize that the next few years are rebuilding years anyway and want to let him grow with the team. Torre's stars of the 90s like Mussina, Pettite, Clemens, Rivera, Posada will soon be gone or at the end of their careers.

I'll miss Joe as will all Yankee fans I'm sure. I agree completely with what Joe did. Yankee management demeaned Joe and everything he's done with the team when George's announcement was made about firing Joe if he didn't win that night's game...........In the middle of the playoffs when the Yankees were fighting for their playoff life he put such undue pressure on Joe and the team it was awful...........Joe's a very proud man and he did what was the best thing for him to do...........He knocked them off their rockers because I think they thought he would accept anything they put on the table for him.............Good for you Joe............I wish him the very best of everything in all his future endeavours and thank him for all the good Joe Torre Yankee years he gave us................CAT

Iam in agreement with your reaction... Let me add My two cents,,, the stunt that the Yankes Org. Tried to pull on the Yankee fans was so dis respectful, and the fact that Joe was offered the One Year discounted offer was an Insult to a Man Who LED this FRANCHISE to so many post season trips ... I am ashamed to be a Yankee fan Today....

I am at peace with his decision. I think the Yanks dropped the ball. Joe will be missed no matter who becomes the manager. Just wonder who else will be gone (players and/or coaches).

The Yankees are idiots...trying to bite the hand that has fed them for 12 years...Torre deserves more respect...and I'm a Red Sox fan...

I can't believe that he didn't re sign!!
I think he knows his time's over and the Yankees need new blood in the players and in the management.
