would an engaged couple still be called 'engaged' after the katb ketab or would they now be refered to as 'married'?

my friends just had their katb ketab done and now he introduces her to people as his wife.. dont you have to be actually married to do that? I mean after the wedding?

I say as long as the wedding ring is on the right hand then you're still engaged! What's the right thing?

It is considered that the couple are legally matrried by law. As others have said the there is often a seperate "wedding" in addition to the katb ketab and the time period between may vary for many reasons.
Our katb ketab was held over a year before we got married.

I really just needed to answer your question to remark how great it is to have 'the old Ismaily" back among us.I really hope that you don't mind.
This is THE ONE we love so much. So don't go loosing or mislaying him again pleeeese!!!!!!!

According to Islam and marriage law, they are married. Traditions sometimes consider them to be married after the wedding party. They start their honey moon and the bride go to live in her home with her husband after the wedding.

It's just a matter of marriage traditions which is not applied by the majority now. They do both (Ketab and wedding) in one day or within few days difference.

Katb ketab is marriage.
They are legally married now. They go to the wedding contractor and everything. There are witnesses and all.
The only difference between actual marriage and katb kitab is that when the actual marriage takes place, there is a wedding and people get invited and all.
Usually the wedding is done immediately after the katb ketab, a day after at most. In some cases, there is a long period of time between the wedding and katb ketab.
Why?
Sometimes the groom is not financially ready. However, the couple are sure of their degree of commitment, so they want to make things official.
This has benefits in that they no longer have to take the younger brother with them whenever they go out. They're now officialy married.
However, this katb ketab without wedding can cause problems because sometimes the couple fight, and they want to break up. When a break up happens between engaged people, it is no big deal. But when a break up happens between people who are binded by katb el ketab, it is a big deal. It is an actual divorce.
BAM BAM BAM BAAAAM ..TESHHH.

Katb Ketab is a marriage from the legal way or religion way, but if you consider marriage not complete unless partner have sexual relationship then it may be not marriage.

there are two standards involved in this question:
1- they are legally married. the marriage certificate is issued after katb el kitab.
2- in islam and in the traditions followed, katb el kitab doesnt necessarily mean they are wed , ie, lived under the same roof, slept in the same bedroom , etc.
the girl doesnt allow the man to behave as a husband, physically.
in islam, if the couple are divorced, it is written in the paper that the girl got separated when she was a virgin.
this is of vital importance for her when she gets attached to another man , he knows that she's virgin , a girl who had a marriage contract . but was separated without being intimate with the man.
however, if the man dies while she is still a girl , she will inherit him, for here there is no issue in debate. she is his girl widow.
this law and others are followed in the interest of the female.
it shows beyond doubt that islam protects the interests of females though many still doubt it.
