3.14 is the short form of pi, which is the ratio of the circumference of a circle to the diameter.
Or, in other words, how many diameters long the edge of the circle is.
So if the diameter is 1, the circumference is 3.14. Pi is actually an incredibly long number, but you're not going to need to use more than 3.14.
Terminology:
Circumference: The distance around a triangle. Think of it like this: You're making a circle out of a piece of string. If it takes 1 meter of string to complete your circle, the diameter is one meter.
Radius: A straight line that goes through the center of the circle.
Diameter: Half a radius. Goes from the center of a circle to the edge.

Hi Pal,
You are so spaced out you didnot listen well.It is 3.14( three point one four)I know the numbers run well beyond the 29 digit place. There are people who can remember upto the 30 digit place.Pi is the Roman notation for 3.14 and is the ratio of the diameter to the circumfrence.
The radius of a circle is half the diameter.

You are referring to pi. It is the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter which is about 3.14. It's actually an irrational number which has non-repeating digits. Try 22/7 on your calculator, thats pi.

It is an abbreviation of pi, which is a number that just goes on forever (irrational).
It is defined by the ratio of circumference to diameter of any circle.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pi
has a 50-digit approximation, and the (greek) letter abbreviation. It also includes some formulae and applications.

Pi or π is the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter in Euclidean geometry, approximately 3.14159. Pi is a mathematical constant and a transcendental (and therefore irrational) real number, with many uses in mathematics, physics, and engineering.

If you take a piece of string and stretch it across a circle and measure the distance, you will be able to wrap that string distance around the outside of the circle 3.14 times. That is called Pi.

Are you talking pi? It's the ratio the circumference of a circle to the diameter, commonly rounded to 3.14. It actually continues on indefinitely, but is most commonly used in circles.
