If you owned a house in Maine;a two bedroom house with about 2 acres to go with it, a rental trailer on the land, room for pigs {fenced in, and a fenced in yard for pets,}on the coast 2 min. walk from ocean, and it was on an Island where life is laid back... AND you owned a house in florida, two bedroom , close to disney, heart of florida, fast paced...nice house fenced in yard for pets or children, safe neighborhood, friends in both places, had a boat, and loved both houses;and you had to sell one of the houses, which would you sell?

It depends. If you are young and love the snow sell the FL house. Fl will probably hold it's value better. Everyone loves orlando and FL. I personally got very tired of the snow! So I would keep the Fl home. Why not rent out one of them and keep both? Call a REALTOR and see if there is a way to make it happen!

I would sell neither, even if I had to work two jobs to do it. I am from Orlando, but come from Vermont, so I can understand your problem since both areas are so different and have their good and bad points.

I also understand that Orlando home sales are really poor right now with only 5% of the current listings being sold each month. You may have better luck selling the vacation home on the island in Maine.

If I absolutely had to choose one and all other economic issues were equal (it may be hard to find work in Maine), I would choose the Maine house because it would be a better place to raise a family than Orlando which is starting to become very high crime. Your particular neighborhood may be safe, but criminals have cars. Also if you have kids, their associations would likely be better in Maine.

I'm not so sure I'd like to raise any pigs, but some sheep may be nice....

Maine is not only with land but rental income.
I would probably lean toward Maine. You know what they say about land.

I don't like Hurricanes.
I love the ocean.
Disney is nice to visit.
I prefer country to fast paced.

I would really evaluate if I truly needed to sell.
Do I need alot of cash or could I settle for cash out refinance and rent it out?
Could you rent the Florida as a vacation rental and get even more by the week or weekend? If you have friends maybe they would assist you for a small fee to work that as a vacation rental?

It's preference. I would prefer the one with the most equity in the place I love..........with rental income and land.
But I would find a way to keep the other if I could.

Good Luck

That's a tough one.

Maine is gorgeous in the summer and pretty nice in late spring and early fall. The rest of the year SUCKS weather-wise. At least severe weather is fairly rare.

Florida is hotter than Hades 2/3 of the year, you need a chain saw to cut the air to breathe. When it's the dead of winter in Maine it is quite lovely though. BUT, FL gets hurricanes fairly often and this drives up the cost of insurance and there's also the risk of losing everything. That type of weather risk is essentially non-existant in Maine.

IMHO, advantage Maine. Especially of you have someone to snuggle with during those cold winters! I'd be putting FL on the market.

I would sell Florida because it sounds like it is a great location and thus would be easier to sell. I would take the proceeds from the sale and pay off the house in Maine and live mortgage free.

Very easy answer. Sell the one that has the white stuff that falls out of the sky. Keep the one that has perfect weather, except for a Hurricane every other year.

First of all I need to know if you have small children, or are you retired. If retired Maine would be the answer. If children I would say Florida. Of course that is just my opinion, your the one that has to make the decision.

I'd rather live in Maine.
Less bugs, snow instead of thunderstorms, near a natural attraction (ocean) rather than a man-made one (Disney), laid-back lifestyle rather than fast-paced hectic tourist area.
