My husband works out of town also. At first he was working for a company he did not like and I wouldn't see him for 1-3 months at a time. He was extremely difficult to talk to or deal with, very unhappy and angry. I searched the internet for jobs for him and sent out resumes for him. He ended up getting another job offer from a company I sent his resume to. This company is local to us, he still gets sent out of town, but the company is good to him and gives more opportunity for him to come home or have family go to where he's working.
If at all possible I would suggest help him find another job. When you talk to him just try to be as loving and patient as possible. Perhaps try to make him laugh, flirt with him, try to give him a loving distraction from the situation and his stress.

If you can afford it, meet him in the town he works one evening and have a nice, well deserved night out. Then talk about things and help him find a job where he'll be happy. Just assure him you're always there for him, and live up to that promise too.

Tell him it's time to think about looking for another job. If he's going to be away, and get treated poorly, then go find something he'll enjoy. It will make you both happy, even if the new job is less money. Maybe he'll get lucky and find one that's more money AND makes his job enjoyable!

look for another job. he is probably stressed from his job and from being away from you. there is nooooo way i could work a job like that. as far as what to tell him, just sincerely thank him every day he doesn't expect you to solve his problems at work he just needs to know that he is doing this for a good reason and that you love him and appreciate him

Just be there for him that's about all you can do at this point. If he is stressed out he is the one that put himself there so he is the only one that can get himself out. As long as he knows you are in his corner he will be OK. Just keep reminding him how much you love him.
