they didn't own the place, they rented and i know there were only 2 people that lived there afterwards. I did a search on the whitepages and got a name i know isn't his.

go to http://www.whitepages.com/reverse_address and do a reverse address search to get the name, then go to goggle.com and do a search for the name, if there is a obituary or news report, it will show up there.

as long as you know the address, you can try the County
Property Information website. If they owned a home, their name will be on the title..

You can do it manualy at public records. Though sometimes the death of a persons records are sealed, pending investigation.
