Ok here goes. my father in law names is daniel my husband was named after him daniel Jr. but we call him danny.
Now pregnant... dont know sex... was wondering a variation of daniel.... dont want daniel 3rd. ty.

In my mom's extended family there are three Daniels in grandfather-father-son succession. We call them Uncle Danny, Danny Boy, and Little Dan.
Alternatively, you could call your son by his middle name or a variation thereof. I know a guy named William James III who goes by Jamie. It suits him and there's no confusion.

isn't it having SR, JR, is different from I and II. no need to name III if I is still available.
Daniel I would be nice then give him a nickname like Da-u (read as da-you)
its like DAniel Uno.
for a girl... Danielle or Danniella would be nice and give her a nickname like Della or Dana.

My uncles's name was Dana(nickname Danny)...and it can also be used for a girl.

I think Dane would be a nice name. I love that name and it is pretty close to Daniel.
For a girl you could use Danae (du-nay)
