I got a Compaq Presario in February 2007. I have accidentally dropped it or stepped on it and now the screen is cracked. I call the company from where I bought the computer but they said that the insurance won't cover the damages. For how much can I sell it? Also, are there any websites where I can buy the screen for cheap? Or is there a place that fixes screens for cheap?

Thanks,

Similar computers on E-bay are being sold for parts for around $150. Be honest about what you have on your computer for sale. Let them know that your screen is broken. Also, if you remove the hard drive to protect your information from being stolen, make sure that you include the hard drive "cage" and "connector" to the laptop. That will increase the price you are selling it for! (Maybe by another $50-$100, as those items are specific by model and often are not produced anymore.)

But replacing the screen is not very difficult. You can purchase a screen from various sources. I placed a link to Screentekinc below, for your convenience. I also tried to find a link to a service manual for your laptop, but you did not give the model number. To replace the screen, you just need to remove about four or five screws. The screen is one piece, attached by a ribbon cable. Pull the screen out, unplug the ribbon cable. To install the new screen, plug the ribbon cable in, place the screen in it's position, put the frame in and reinstall the screws. It is not hard at all. You may want to buy a computer toolkit so you have the proper screwdrivers. (About $15.)

Good luck!

I wouldn't sell it if I were you. Just call Compaq and ask where's the closest repair store in your area then bring it there.

Impossible to say without the specs. Maybe £150?
