Is it illegal to fire a teacher when they go on strike? If they can't be fired right away, then after how long can they be? I feel when they give the ultimatum to not teach, the tax payers should have be able to give the ultimatum that by a certain date they have to be back or lose their jobs. The board of education's offer is reasonable by a large portion of the community.

The district is broke by the tune of 3 million dollars. The offer is a 3.5% raise, a cap on pension and $26 more in health insurance. It's not an unreasonable offer.

That's why workers have unions-to prevent dictators from ordering them back to work when they go on strike demanding better pay and benefits. Maybe a large portion of the community feels the offer is reasonable but they aren't the
ones who have to live with it.

Legislating teachers, police officers or health care workers back on the job won't prevent slowdowns or walk-outs. It also
won't prevent people from simply leaving and working for better wages elsewhere. Wave good-bye if you like, but don't
be surprised when you end up short on essential services when you need them. Negotiation is better.

Depends on the state. If they are unionized, then no you can't fire them. They are pesky little buggers ain't they? They'll pass on a really good raise just to be a pain and try to get more.
