Pick a topic that is interesting to you, that you think will interest your audience, and that your audience knows little about.

If you select a topic of some controversy, an informative speech would describe the various sides, or the pros and cons, but not move further to persuade the audience to feel a certain way

It's best if it's about something you know how to do well. For example:
1. bidding/selling on ebay
2. joining/using yahoo answers
3. selling textbooks online
4. encrypting a document/email
5. setting up wireless interent
6. demonstrate something

Your fellow students might not all be amazed, but your teacher probably will feel "enlightened".
