When someone is obsessed with your?

material possessions? What does that mean? Whenever you see them they mention it and when they do they downplay whatever new item I buy. For instance if I buy a new car, he says, hows that old junky car of yours?- in front of people too. Why dosent this guy talk to me about other things, why is it always about downplaying my material possessions?

I know it sounds like a joke about the old junky car but he's actually being serious.

Psychologically speaking, people that put down other]s are only trying to elevate themselves, and so much more so in front of an audience! This person cannot confront you directly because he feels too inadequate. He feels his possessions do not live up to the standard he wishes them to be , but he must diminish your successes. Ignore his illness

Find out what he likes or does as a hobby. If he is on a bowling league and his team wins, tell him it was just luck or something. Wait until you can find something/anything to make a similar joke about him with. This may sound really strange, but you may actually establish a report with him this way. You may want do it in public to feel him out first just in case. If he is joking, then you guys should be able to share many laughs in the future.

simply jealous and the geek probably spends his money on drink and porn so cannot afford what you got, next time he downplays just compare it with what he has which makes you just as bad or do what I do and go yeah my new car really is junky and people will say no it is not!

maybe he likes you, but is born around may-ish(or jus materialistic), so tends to be material 'obsessed...

as for the downplaying part, that may be the only way he feels he can come across as witty...

i dont actually know your realtions with the guy so it just a guess.. but maybe he likes you, and cant think of anything else to say

to veer him away from cracking only material 'jokes' maybe you could retort with something that highlights something else.. :)

He is acting this way because he wants attention and he may care about you a lot. Whatever he says just ignore and don't let it get to you. He can be jealous about everything about you. Thats why is acting this way. Next time when he makes a comment. If you really want to know why ask him what is his problem? Why is he talking bad about everything you buy.

Seems to me he likes to push all the right buttons to make you react. Try ignoring him or you could give him some of his own medicine. Try cutting down his material possessions and see if he will get the hint.

I have noticed that some people are just like that. Like its a part of their personality....something only a dim bulb or a mother could love if you ask me.........but thats besides the point.

I always chaulk it up to them being less secure about things in life...so they have to like talk them selves up in certain areas only because they lack in other areas.

Dont take it as something because of you or something that you do. You dont do anything wrong and I think you know that. This character flaw of theirs is because of their own short comings.

Let them do it all they want....while you think of what they suck at or lack....just dont ever be like them and bring it up.

that happens a lot! I usually get a "hey ugly whats up" when Im not ugly, but I think these guys do it cuz they feel less than you, feel minimal, and miserable! The truth is, if they downplay you, its cuz they're jealous! my 2 cents bro!

I have a cousin like this. She and her herband are rich. The rest of us are not. They always pick on and ridicule eveything that anyone else has to make themselves feel better because no one likes their stuck up hind-ends!
