I would pull my child out of that school, take the pills away from her and put her in a private school. I talk with my children about these matters and do not think the schools need to take over for me on what they want to do or by offering her drugs which I do not believe she should be taking. 11 years old??? This is insanity!! No one has the right to offer my young child the ability to get birth control pills without my knowledge. This is getting totally out of hand! There are too many people involved in doing what is my responsibility. I teach my children the things I want them to learn and I do not appreciate interference from the school on issues that I consider morality issues. Parents have to show their disapproval and vote these crazy laws down. I am sick to death of the liberal views that are being pushed everywhere.

I would certainly hope that my 11 year old was NOT having sex. Pre teens are way too young to understand the implications of what they are doing, and all they can possibly know is that it feels good, I never even thought of it at that age, but that was a whole different time. If my daughter was having sex, I would much rather she was using birth control than to get pregnant ( a baby having a baby) or to secretly seek a back alley abortion. I do not think it is legal for to dispense medications without a doctors prescription and without a parents permission. I believe that the scenario around the pills assumes that my child, the doctor, and the school are open and up front with each other. However, I imagine that most of the pills will be dispensed to mixed up little girls whose parents don't care much one way or the other. Which is where so many unplanned babies come from, usually long after the "baby daddy" has taken off down the road. Yet another generation is cast into a cycle of failure.Regarding the results of human sexuality, abstinence (which is rare): birth control, abortion, infanticide, abandonment, adoption, and raising a child are the options. I vote for abstinence, and I disapprove of abortion in most cases. However, far better to prevent the egg's implantation in the first place than to deal with the anguish of disposing of an innocent, unwanted baby. And of course a lifetime of emotional and financial burdens. And finally, by all means, when they are young, TALK with your child about sex. And for pity's sake leave the SHAME part out of it. At least they will go into adolescence with their eyes open.

May seem a little early for birth control to some parents, but kids are having sex earlier these days.
I'm 29 and back when I was in school, the youngest age that someone would be having sex was 13 or 14. Now, there are 10, 11, and 12 year old girls that go to the hospital for pregnancy tests. I worked in a lab for three years, I was always shocked to see the girls coming in.
We had one girl who came in for a urine pregnancy test. She was 15. I expressed amazement, I said, "Good luck". She said, "I know, I don't know how I'm gonna raise another kid, I already have twins at home." WTF is a teen girl with TWINS doing still having sex??????????
We had an 18 year old come in for a pregnancy test, she already has a 7 year old, a 5 year old, and a three year old!!!!
So maybe your 11 year old needs birth control. Don't be so naive.

I would presume that she had a need for them to be prescribed. Then I would spend several hours banging my head in the door and wondering how the hell my 11 year old child got in to this situation without me noticing. Then I'd probably think back over the past 11 years and realise I'd been a bit c rap.
**But working on very worse case scenario and utterly ignorant parents I do have to say that I would rather find out that my 11 year old daugther had been given birth control pills than find out my 11 year old daugther was pregnant.

I would call my lawyer. Some kids have health issues and only a doctor can say if it is safe for the child to take. What moron came up with that. A child does not no what PILLS could harm and neither does the nut cases who are handing them out. Dispenseing rx without a doc. written prescription is supposed to be illegal who are the morons who are getting away with this.

Unfortunately, a lot of children that age are sexually active. I think very few people like that but the only way they can truly shelter their children and teach them only the things they want them to know is to not send them to school at all and don't allow them to interact with other children. In other words, hide the children in closets and don't allow them outside at all. That way, the children will grow up innocent and naive and totally unprepared for the real world where they will come into contact with other people and activities the parents might not approve of. TALK TO YOUR CHILDREN ABOUT SEX. Don't put it off, don't leave out little details that might embarrass you, don't tell them not to have sex and then give them no other information, and don't use silly words to refer to private parts or sexual activity. That's why schools have to give sex education classes of provide students with birth control. Their parents certainly aren't doing their jobs. This country has the highest teen pregnancy rate in the industrialized world and the problem is especially bad in areas that push an abstinence-only approach to sex education. It doesn't work.

After my head exploded from the fact that my 11 year old is having sex. I would have to examine the the years that I spent with her, and wonder if I had been a good enough father to talk with her, and help her deal with those type of situations.

I WOULD FLIP OUT !!!!!!!
I would want to know who gave them to her and why?
I would make that person responsible.
11 year is way too young to start birth control pills!
I would be so shocked if this is really true!

Well I know that you're talking about schools because I just saw the news story about that.
I wouldn't mind this at all, at least theres less chance of a kid and whatnot. I'm not gonna go up to my dad and be like, hey dad I need some condoms because I wanna have intercourse with my girlfriend, I'd just get it without him knowing because he wouldn't let me do that.
You have to think from a child's perspective at this point and not at a mother/father's. They're more likely to take it without the parents knowing.
