What has happened to the state of science education if a science teacher actually believed that "rain falling through the sky will naturally pick up CO2 creating acid rain"???
You need hydrogen to move toward acidity. There's no hydrogen in CO2. Blowing through a straw into a glass proves that saliva is acidic.
Often the big, flashy science projects get the most attention and best grades. If something has a lot of motion or flashes and loud noises, it'll grab attention and a good grade. A few years ago my daughter used her K'Nex construction set to build a contraption that demonstrated the six simple machines: lever, inclined plane, wedge, wheel and axle, pulley, and screw. The whole point of the mechanism was to move a ball through it using each of the different simple machines. The screw was roughly like a spiral staircase that the ball corkscrewed down. Her teacher was impressed.

My daughter won second place in 6th grade by proving acid rain accured naturally. You need 2 glasses, water, a straw, and a fish tank test kit.
test the acid level of the water in both glasses. Using the straw, blow into one glass for 1 minute, and the other for two minutesw. Test the acid level in both glasses again.
Rain falling through the sky will naturally pick up CO2 creating acid rain.
