The prices will vary by dates and season. Many hotels are much higher on the weekends as that is their busiest time. FOr looking at hotels and locations I have always found the best screening tool is just to use Yahoo Travel.

Pick a location ie Riverwalk or Downtown, and a price range, and then check those choices against the answers you get. You will find we all have favorites on here. ffperki loves the Menger which is a great 3 star hotel and does have a lot of history and you can throw a rock and hit the Alamo from there, it is also a very short walk to the river. I always recommend the St Anthony which is a Historic Hotel owned by Wyndam but on the Riverwalk I would have to recommend the Hyatt Regency Riverwalk it is $139 per night as opposed to $199 per night for the Marriott. I know other responders have told you that they have gotten the rooms for less in the past 3 years, and I do not doubt they have. My wife owns a travel agency and I will tell you that dependent on the night I can get you the exact same rooms in certain hotels for $89 and $229 per night. It is always based on the supply and demand. However, what you need to compare is the published rates, not the specials which are or have been possible at some time in the past. Look at yahoo to see what is available, get advice, and then search the internet or travel agents for the best available rates.

The Marriott Rivercenter and Riverwalk have good rates around this time of year. About 1 years ago I went to the Marriott Rivecenter and stayed on a 27th floor for only $100.00 a night. That was very reasonable considering the prices are usually in the upper $360's per night.

Another really nice hotel on the riverwalk is the Hyatt Regency Riverwalk. That hotel is awesome. I've stayed there, they have really nice rooms and the facility itself is beautiful because, like all Hyatts, they have a indoor garden with some sort of water feature. Depending on the temperature, which you never can predict here in Texas, they have a roof top heated pool and spa. Also try the Emily Morgan Hotel.

The Marriott Rivercenter and Riverwalk have good rates around this time of year. About 2 years ago I went with my girlfriend to the Marriott Rivecenter and stayed on a 33rd floor for only $115.00 a night. That was very reasonable considering the prices are usually in the upper $260's per night.

Another really nice hotel on the riverwalk is the Hyatt Regency Riverwalk. That hotel is awesome. I've never stayed there, but I have walked through there. From what I've heard they have really nice rooms and the facility itself is beautiful because, like all Hyatts, they have a indoor garden with some sort of water feature. Depending on the temperature, which you never can predict here in Texas, they have a roof top heated pool and spa.

For sure you won't be dissappointed with those hotels.

I would stay at the Menger Hotel it is fraught with history and at the same time it is a super hotel to stay in with all of the modern conveniences. People will tell you that they stayed here or there and only spent so many dollars but they aren't telling you is that the normal price is much higher. The Menger is $129.00 a night and you can even find a deal at times on that. This is across from the Alamo and next to the River city Mall, it is so close to the river walk that you could almost fall in. Have a good time while you are here.

try hotwire or priceline. Depending on what you want to spend, you could select a 4 star for around $100.00 a night and get a nice hotel.
You can select what part of town you wnat to stay in. If you choose downtown and don't think you can go wrong.
good luck
