A different version of the game is played indoors in Australia and I'd guess elsewhere as well.
Also, the Docklands staduim in Melbourne has had several ODI games (in Winter!) under a roof.

Costs involved might prevent such undertakings. But, with more and more cricket being played we would have more indoor stadiums for cricket. If the Aussies have started it already then nothing to prevent it from being tried out in the other countries.

there is indoor cricket, but it is played inside a net not in a ground..
there is only one indoor cricket ground for now...
It is in TelestarDom Melbourne....
3 match series was played in that ground between Aus and SA..... SA won the series by 2-1.........
the only problem is difficult to hit sixes...
some shots hit the roof and didn't go for six.....

oh it can be played indoors, i played it once with my brothers(we were grounded ,dont ask why), the boundary for 4 was the toilet door,i had almost caught the ball, it would have been my first, and then BHAMM!!!!,I hit my head on the flush,i donno what happened after that , but i am sure it wasnt anything good as our grounding period was being extended for a week, now we dont want that happening to our international players

so now you know why cricket is not being played indoors

It has been played indoors at The Telstra Dome in Melbourne, although the roof isn't high enough Mike Hussey hit it.
