Red Sox Yankees conflict: Not as much as you would have guessed:
1919, Yankees buy Babe Ruth's contract for $100,000;
1949, Red Sox face the Yankees up by one game going into the last 2 game series of the season. Yankees go to the World Series.
1978, Red Sox lead Yankees by 14 games at the All Star break. Yankees catch them, after a pair of ignominious 3 games sweeps called the Boston Massacres, on the last day of the season, forcing the infamous tiebreaker playoff game. You know about Bucky F. Dent's 3 run pop fly of a home run, but Red Sox DH and HOF member Carl Yastrzemski got up with men on 1st and 2d with 2 out in the bottom of the ninth and popped out to Graig Nettles at third base;
1986, Yankee fans curse the World Series between the hated Red Sox and the hated Mets hoping for both to lose. They get their wish. Mets are pushed to the brink but the Red Sox blow it.
1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2003, Yankees seem to own the AL rights to the World Series. DBacks and Marlins beat them in the last two.
1999, Yankees beat Red Sox in ALCS 4-1, with the one game a brilliant performance by Pedro Martinez
2003, After bitterly fought ALCS, including a bench clearing brawl in game 3, Yankees win in 12th inning of game 7 on walk off home run against Tim Wakefield by Aaron F. Boone.
2004, Biggest choke in Sports history.
2005, Yankees take AL East on second to last day of season at Fenway
2006, Another Boston massacre, 5 game sweep at Fenway, takes the Red Sox out of first place
2007, Yankees beat Red Sox in season's series, Red Sox still take AL East for first time since 1995.

what type of conflict? ... like Alex Rodriguez and Jason Varitek nearly coming to blows a couple seasons ago? Or Bucky Dent hitting the home run in game 163 of the season back in 1978? Or the people in Boston who would lay in front of the bulldozers if they ever tried to tear down Fenway Park to build a new stadium? Or Manny Ramirez's comments last night after the game?

A good conflict would be how disrespectful red sox fans are in other people's ballparks.
