l"ve studied the psychology on this and also the human brain.
There's a few types of blindness. All result in the subject not receiving or perceiving messages/images/or electro chemical signals.
Long story short- if the problem is down to a severing [or non-existence] of the lines from the eye to occipital part of the brain then they will see nothing. No colour, no images, nothing. [poor things] Anyhows, if the damage is caused between the eye and the part of the brain that relates the images then the subject will see nothing directly but their mind is capable of projecting dreams etc onto the receiving part of the brain. Just the same as we do when we dream or have a romantic fantasy etc..... We can't see anything but we see/imagine it in our mind's eye.

If someone is blind from birth because of defects in the eye or optic nerve (pathway from eyes to brain), the portion of the brain that normally processes visual information is still intact. However, this visual cortex would be smaller than normal because of disuse, and other functional regions of the brain would encroach (a phenomenon known as brain plasticity).
There seems to be a fair bit of random as well as coordinated neuron firing in our brains when we dream. It seems likely that the visual cortex of a blind person would still be part of this firing. Certain areas are responsible for colours and assembling patterns/shapes. So, a blind person could see collections of shapes and colours, but nothing that resembles anything from the outside world.

oooh i like the question!
radical.
okay, well,
i would think...
that they would indeed dream..
about what, i dont know.
because they havent seen anything...
but im sure they can imagine it all...
hmm
and the color thing, thats a toughie too
i wouldnt think that they would see the colors
perhaps slight tints..
but not full-out yellow or purple
unless God puts all the images & stuff in their head
just so they can see it all
=]
who knows tho
