I need to sew a set of scrubs for a halloween costume and have no idea where to begin. How much fabric would I need and what should I do? Please help!

Sorry forgot to say I live in rural Japan so fabric patterns for scrubs are just about impossible to find. I just need to know some basic tips to get started. I have a sewing machine and fabric.

Scrub tops are just V necked dartless short sleeve tops with (usually) straight side seams. Do you have any similar patterns?
They'd make your life easier. Instead of doing the usual bound neckline, a faced V neck is much easier and faster... make a copy of the neckline area of the pattern, both front and back. Draw a line about 3" away from the neck edges on the copy,
and cut on the line you just drew. Interface the facing, and turn under the outside edge of the facing. Instead of sewing the facing so it's turned to the inside, turn it to the outside and stitch down -- this is actually the way a number of scrubs were made back when I worked in a hospital a million years ago.

Pants are just straight elastic waist or drawstring. PJ pants are good scrubs patterns.

If you have a set of scrubs or even a shirt that looks like you want your scrubs to look you can use it to trace out a pattern. Just use craft paper or newspaper sheets to trace out the shape of the pieces. It won't be as elegant as a it would be if you used a pattern but it should be ok for a costume.

You should pick up a pattern from your local fabric store. they only cost a couple of dollars, and it will tell you what to buy and how to make the scrubs. Here is an example of what the pattern will look like, but you will never pay that price at Jo-Ann fabrics, for example.
