She said there were about half a dozen in the sink, she has used bleach and boiling water on the sink, but then said she saw four on her ceiling. She has checked around the cupboards etc, but can't find any source. Is it possible they have come from outside. Her house is very clean, so I can't see any problem regarding that.
Where do they come from, and how do you get rid of them.
I have just had her screaming down the phone as she is terrified of them, but I don't live near her to go and help.
Any advice would be appreciated.

I suspect you have something dead or rotting in the house as maggots are created by flies laying eggs in the rotten object.
A dead rat, squirrel, or onion can make this happen;among other things.
I hope this can be of help and I hope I'm wrong

Maggots and things that look like maggots don’t have wings (yet) so they can’t fly. At best, they can crawl. Have your sister mix ¼ liquid dish detergent in ¾ water. Load the mixture in a spray bottle. When sprayed directly on the critters, this mixture is lethal to all insect species.

Armed with this weapon, have your sister look for any animal or vegetable matter that they were feeding on before they came out. They didn’t grow in her sink or on her ceiling. They need something that has some moisture in it. HandyMam’s suggestion of capturing one and taking it to an authority is very good.

Well you shouldn't have them in your house. Most cases in warm weather if you have garbage (meat) that's left open near a window for flies to come in and lay their eggs. Or maybe you have some sort of dead animals like a mouse somewhere in your house. I would investigate this because I'd rather live in a house with cockroaches then maggots.

If they are coming from the sink, there could be food (a habitat for developing larvae) in the trap.

But most likely they have been deposited by a dying fly or insect, in all of the wrong places. There are some types of beetles that leave their larva around to develop, but they aren't common to insides of homes.

If she is concerned, tell her to put a few specimens in a jar or ziplock baggie. Take them to a pest control company that has an actual entimologist on staff OR to a university proffessor of Entimology to help you identify the critter.

Good luck with this!

They are not maggots. Maggots grow in meat.
They are probably some kind of seed worms.
Tell her to look in something stored long term first [ like birdseed, or dry dog food ].
Then empty out cupboards, pantry, etc. Tell her to check garage, and any outside storing areas.
Tell her to check the area outside the sink - could be something on the side of the building.
Throw away anythingthat had the worms in it, and wash out container.
