I think i'm going through menopause, why do I feel like I've been run over by a truck? My whole body aches, and I started my period about 3 days ago, only light pink, then it stopped. My belly is still cramping though. HELP!

Welcome to the wonderful world of menopause... it's a hell of a lot of fun....I didn't get those lovely night sweats but I hear they are SOOOO much fun----kind of like sitting in a room with a temperature of 103 with sweat pouring down... Hot flashes are VERY common-where you will be sitting calmly and suddenl feel like you are BURNING UP..... get a fan for your desk at work----Where I sat when I worked, 4 of us OLD LADIES had fans on our desks and on any given day, they were blowing like crazy keeping us cooler... Your period takes a few months to totally STOP altogether. to help with the cramps, invest in a heating pad or hot water bottle or even some of those ICY HOT type patches work wonders especially at WORK....put the patch on your lower stomach and it really does help. Other then that, if you get really bad, go see your doctor and get on estrogen pills. I never took any pills during my entire menopause .... I was VERY fortunate during menopause--PROBABLY because I went through a living HELL during my "FERTILE" days.. I started at 11 years old and stopped at 50...and I used to be physically very sick for 2 days every single month....

Your doctor can run a blood test that will tell you exactly where you are in the menopause cycle. Within two days you will have the results.

I don't think your body aches and the cramping are signs of menopause. I realize we are all different but I don't think those are good symptoms. As far as your period goes, you cannot compare that to anyone either. Every single woman is different.

It's not menopause so I think you should see your doctor and at least do the test and explain your symptoms.

I would not take any over the counter drugs until you ask your doctor. If you are taking any prescription drugs or other vitamins, the supplements could interfere.

EDIT NOTE: You should post this in the women's category. You will get better coverage and more advice.

Go see an OBGYN for tests to see if you're going through menopause and rule out other possible health conditions. I had all the symptoms of menopause for several yrs, but my dr insisted we get my thyroid under control before we worry about 'that'. I had periods that were lasting 2 weeks with blood clots for a long time. Finally I convinced my dr to refer me to an OBGYN and she said at 47 I was post menopausal. I had gone through years of suffering perimenopause and menopause without any help. This happened to my mom also who started having symptoms in her 30's. She is 72 and still has to take meds to keep from bleeding.

If your dr doesn't want to do the tests, find one who will. Taking hormone replacement therapy is an individual decision. I took a Combipatch for a year, until we no longer had insurance and could no longer afford too. It really helped me, some OTC things I tried didn't help. If I use meds now they are homeopathic rememdies. You and your dr. can decide what will work best for you. I still have some symtoms, esp hot flashes, but I'm dealing with them fairly well. Best wishes to you.

I was done at 47 and it took me almost 6 years to get there. Extra strength Pamprin will help with the cramping. Just try and remain calm, it will be end. I can't imagine a lite period--mine were so crazy I had to wear a tampon and a pad and then be very cautious when I stood up after sitting for a while. Once you skip a few months and then go back again to a regular schedule for you---bam--suddenly there will not be another one. It is something we all have to go thru being female and we are all different but once it is gone---eeeeehhhhaaa!

welcome to our world. i am 55 and have been through menopause for about 5 yrs. now, but I still feel like I am in the thros of that wonderful but hateful time. I love no more periods, but the hot flashes are out of this world at times and I still feel like I am freezing when I should be comfortable. Go figure! But truly you should check with your Dr. to find out if that is what is wrong with you. They can tell by a pelvic exam and I think a simple blood test now a days.

Good Luck!!

Hmmmmm, the fact that you are still having cramping might mean that the light period may not be due to the hormonal changes due to heading towards menopause. Why not schedule an appointment with your gyncologist and have an exam done?

Whatever is causing your symptoms, I'm sorry to read that you are suffering!

The only way to know for sure is to see your doctor. Discuss your symptoms and ask for a blood test to check your hormone levels.
I was thrown into early menopause 2 years ago due to my chemo treatments, and for me it was pretty easy. The mood swings and hot flashes still come and go, but they're not so bad now. They are so much easier than the horrible PMS symptoms I had before!

You need to see your GP and get a referral to see a Gynecologist. Women have been known to start menopause in their thirties . This is not the place to get info as everyone is different and so are you. If there is something more serious going on, the earlier you eliminate it the better. You can't play with your health and peace of mind is just as important as the physical health.

You are blessed to have all this input from so many women. But the bottom line is see your Dr. I know I felt betrayed by my body. Nobody every told me getting thru menopause could be so tough. I had hot flashes day and night.
I saw one woman recommended Estroven and an older woman in her 70's told me about it and she is still taking it. It is cheapest at Walmart, I think.

Welcome to the real age of hardships.I been there at about that age.The cycle may stop, check with your GYN.If the hot flashes start pray they are only at nite.I had them at nite, then it switched to afternoons. Not good being red faces for 3 or 4 hours. Now when you start staying up all nite and not knowing why,you can blame it on this hardship. But really, you may need to check your blood for anemia,it causes these symptoms...
