It primarily interferes with the function of the placenta causing vessel restriction. This is why babies of moms who smoke tend to be smaller. Most of the studies were done on women who smoked heavily (2 packs or more), but certainly a pack-a-day can result in the same restrictions.
Generally, if you are unable to quit smoking, cut back as much as possible and increase the nutrition you eat. Eliminate fast food and instant food entirely and have a lot of smoothies that include fresh or frozen fruit like blueberries, orange juice and such. Use juice from fresh oranges or frozen juice. The stuff in the carton has lost much of it's vitamin C by the time you buy it. Frozen grape juice (the purple stuff) is especially good because it allows blood to flow smoother through even constricted vessels. 4-8 oz. a day is enough. Hope this helps!

When the mother smokes, or even when someone smokes NEAR the mother, it causes the baby's airways to pull together, or constrict. It can also cause a low birth weight, pre-term labor (labor before 37 weeks) and breathing problems for the baby. If you smoke, you should quit, or at the very least cut back. I know it's hard... I went through it. If anyone around you smokes, they should not be around you while they're smoking, and you should stay away from the room that they smoked in for at least 30 minutes. I know this can be difficult.. my husband's a smoker, and it's hard for me to not be around him because we hardly see each other anymore. But, the best thing for your baby is if you quit or SERIOUSLY cut back to less than 5 cigarettes a day.

well, smoking is poisonus for you to do. There are about 4000 chemicals in smoke that are harmful to you. All of these go into your baby as well. It will cause lung damage, higher risk of fetal death, neural tube defects, lower birth weight, lower IQ scores, hyperactivity in children, just to name a few. It can also cause placenta previa and placenta abruption for the mom. In other words, smoking is not good for you...or your baby... just don't do it.

i know somebody who smoked it the full way via her being pregnant..... I disagree with absolutely everyone making use of it for any reason in the process being pregnant. she stated she used it to ease morning ailment yet i say if your gonna be pregnant then take care of it. yet besides i presumed her infant might pop out with some undesirable defects as she smoked cigarettes aswell. i replaced into stunned to hit upon that her infant replaced into completely healthful at delivery. Now that infant is two and she or he has a severe case of broncular allergies... yet she replaced into positive at delivery. How come that's that when human beings are in charge in the process being pregnant they have toddlers with defects and while human beings ought to no longer care much less touching directly to the well being of their infant are irresponsible they have a healthful infant I in simple terms are not getting it yet do no longer smoke pot in the process being pregnant thats in simple terms stupid

It could end up killing the baby, or absolutely nothing.
Or somewhere in between, like the baby getting cancer.
