My 30 year experience is that the male was much better because both of my male gyns had a nurse there, was slow, so it didn't hurt.
The female gyn I had seemed too quick and matter-of-fact about her.
It truly depends upon the doctor. Check with some adult females you trust (what of your mom's gyn?) and listen to the mannerisms of the doctors. Most doctors get patients by referral, if they're good.
You need to be comfortable with the doctor and his/her staff. Just take your time and find someone to work with you. I think because you are underage, by law, one of your parents will have to sign a release for any doctor to see you. As only a 15 yr old, you have no legal rights if something goes wrong, so you really need a guardian of some sort to attend with you and sign off on the paperwork.
My mom took me the first time, so that I wasn't scared.
When I decided to get on bcp's, I informed my Mom. I didn't want her to "find" some bcp's on me, then she'd think the worse of me. I also needed them to help "straighten" out my irregular cycles.
After a year, my cycles stabilized and I got off until I married.

Every woman is different but my personal preference is that of female doctors because I find them to listen better and be more gentle with me. I also recommend that young women starting out with seeing a gynecologist start with a female doctor because of the fact that it's their first visit and they may also find that they feel more comfortable talking about things of a personal nature with a female doctor than a male doctor.

Me personally, I see a women gyno. I would totally not be comfortable with a man. But I hear there are some good men gyno's out there. Women can also be careful and gentle. I've never had any problems. Go with what you think will be best for you and what would make you comfortable. That's what matters.

Personally, I prefer a woman. First, there'll be less shame and inhibition on my part in case the doctor tells me to take my pants off for a check up "down under". Secondly, if I were asked to describe how I feel, a woman is more likely capable of understanding what I really feel. If I tell her that I have soooo much pain because of my period, she knows exactly what I mean by "soooo much pain".

It's completely up to you and what you feel more comfortable with. Each doctor is different. You can't just assume that men are more gentle. It depends on the person.
I personally prefer going to a woman since she has the same type of body as me, she might be able to better understand what I am experiencing rather than having to describe it to a man.
Just make sure that you feel comfortable and that they are well educated.

It depends on who you feel most comfortable with. Personally i don't have a gynecologist yet but all my physical doctors have been males and I'm more comfortable with them then women. Women that i have had in the past as doctors are just to soft and sometimes forget their job and don't know what they're doing. Good luck and hope u feel better!! :)

I have seen both men and women gynecologists, and honestly I have to say that I feel better with a woman. They are more understanding in a lot of ways. Especially for your first time. My first time I saw a man, and I think the whole thing would have been less awkward.

I've had men and women. I preferred the woman. The men seemed rougher to me. It could have just been the Dr.s because everyone has a different touch. I also felt more comfortable talking to the woman Drs.

I would chose which ever makes you comfortable. Generally your primary Dr. can recommend someone or they can also do the same things. I have found in my 42 yrs. that men generally are not as gentle because they have no idea what it feels like to have a pap smear. female Dr. tend to be more gentle but not as caring when they talk to you. It is all personal preference

it depends on how comfortable you are with men or women. i personally prefer to have a woman because if you have a problem they can relate better because they may know what your going through. men cant relate the same women can. it's up to you. also, i feel much more comfortable with women because you know that they arent going to be some pervert (although i doubt a man would be a pervert, but it's possible.)
