I am out of work and need new tires BADLY .......I am being told that I shouldnt use 255 tire with 265 tire, I know its not a good idea but what harm can it cause to my truck ?

You can get away with it if your replacing a front tire.. But not the rear. You'll ware out the diff in the rearend.

If the other tires are original size, there may be an antilock issue-that smaller tire will make the antilock computer think that tis stopping at a faster speed , and may try to cycle the brake pressure to the other wheels. At the very least, there will probably be an Antilock warning light on.

If the outside diameter is the same, it SHOULDN'T be a problem.

If two tires have a different diameter, one tire will spin faster than the other. I don't think it's that big of a deal for the time being.....after all, they make stupid little compact spares that people put on their cars.....

Insufficient load carrying capacity and the smaller tire could cause expensive driveline damage.

Otherwise its fine.

If you only travel local roads and not high speed highways, you can do anything. But keep the speedometer under 45 mph.
