I started my lessons today and found it really weird (have been driving cars for 11 years) I have never been on a bike before - has anyone been the same and does it get easier - I want to pass my test before it gets harder in february.

yo-han, you completely missed the point. This is my first time ever on a bike - it felt strange - I just wanted to know if it gets easier as I go along. I am taking my test in Northern Ireland, its a hour long test, but in february you have to take at least 6 months worth of lessons before you can apply for your test and I couldnt afford to.

Hi there. As an ageing biket the answer is Yes.
If you go back to when you first started to drive do you remember how hard it was and how as the lessons went by it become easier. Even easier still once the instructor was no longer with you
The bike will be the same. As you will now be aware your instructor is there to get you through this and he will do so all the while you listen to him or her and that said your riding will improve and the tuition lengthens as you will very soon get to thoroughly enjoy the learning experience if you have not already.
Once you pass I would suggest you do try to get out on a bike with hubby and get in some experience you will be sure to love it
Good luck with the learning and the test and just keep safe

When I started 16 years ago, I had 2 practice. Please take an MSF course to find out if u even belong on a bike. It also saves u from messin' up your own bike in the process. R u ready 2 commit your life & body 2 the sport? Make sure! My best childhood friend lost his life & I'm pretty beat up for my age. My best advice is don't ride the street. Take some race schools & keep it on the track!!!

Yes I have been there before and yes it will become a very addictive and natural experience once you get going. I don't want to compare it to riding a bicycle but it has that same slow speed balancing act you did when stoping. I would practise this slow speed travel feathering your clutch it will help you a great deal when doing the pylons and making your figure 8's. If I remember they ask you to travel 30-40 feet as slow as you can without putting your feet down to simulate traffic. Good luck. Happy Riding

take an msf course. you raise concerns with me because you "want to take the test before it gets harder in febuary" if you can't pass the test, you DO NOT belong on the street. personally I think state wide the test are way too easy, which is why we have the huge squid problem we do. if you are serious about riding and want to do it right, take the msf course, take the harder test, and be a safe rider who wears the proper gear. If you are affraid you can't pass a simple road test (I didn't have to leave the parking lot for mine here in Arkansas) then you should not be out endangering your life and others

I took that course also and it does get easier.
The problem is that its harder to ride slow than at speed and they train you in the slow small lot there.
You, in real life riding, will rarely do what they teach you BUT they teach you the hard things like balance and riding slow.
So if you can do that it helps alot. I would advise you to practice on balancing at slow speeds and don't panic or get nervous. An attitude of confidence helps alot.

It is different. And yes, it gets easier.
Just as driving got easier the more you did it.
