No, the 89 Firebird would not. They were very underpowered cars. The Firebird was rated at 135 hp, 160 tq, where the Eclipse (assumung base model) was 140 hp, 130 tq. The main difference is that the Firebird would weigh quite a bit more than the Eclipse. The only time the Firebird might stand a chance was if it was a 5 speed and the Eclipse was an auto. Otherwise, if the Firebird is an auto, it will loose.

few thign that would help answer this questionis the tranny in both cars and either way remember horsepower at the crank dont tell you ****
i believe this is just my opinion that the firebird gets the power to the wheels way more efficiently then the eclipse dose also the firebird if auto only has 3 gears (used to own a 5.0L one) so off the line its trash and the eclipse if auto is just a plain dog at low rpm's
the eclipse really aint that light people it weighs apprx 32-3300 pounds so this race would be close i cant call it there just not enough info

I believe the eclipse is about 1s faster than the firebird. The problem with the car with the giant chicken painted on the hood is that it's heavy. The eclipse will reach peak horsepower/torque much faster and it is much lighter.

2.8 Firebird. Is that the lame four banger? What a waste of Firebird. That is so much a girls car who cares.
