I'm really upset, because I agree with you, I think he's a great manager. I think it takes a LOT to manage the Yankees, and he's been able to do that wonderfully.
But I'm also really happy for him. He left with his dignity. Steinbrenner is SUCH a jerk, i mean, wtf...yeah anyways, Torre left with dignity, and I'm proud of him for that.
I heard somewhere than in the past 44 years, there have been 24 managers (or something along those lines...) and Torre is the only one that hasn't been fired. Good for Joe :)

It's the same feeling when one of your favorite players retires. You miss them because you loved what they did in their day, but you know that once someone gets on in years they aren't the same player they used to be and often times their heart isn't in it anymore. Torre provided many great years for Yankees fans but he had to move on at some point. Hopefully management will focus on youth and create a new Yankee dynasty.

I have mixed feeling,It really made me sad,i'll be honest in the middle of the summer i thought maybe Torre should just retire,But then after he got us in the playoffs for the 12th time,i thought, how the hell did he turn this team around! I just saw an interview with Terry Francona,He said Torre was a great guy,and respected,It's really strange,,I'm also a little pissed that he turned down 5mil to come back!I know it was a pay cut,But still,,I guess it's just all about the money,,Baseball isn't a sport anymore,it's just a BUSINESS!!

I agree with you completely - it's TERRIBLE that Joe Torre was fired, he did so many great things for the Yankees over the past decade and a half, but if any of us were in his position, I think most of us would've done the same thing. Every year, he was being threatened, and degraded for doing his job. Steinbrenner needs to accept the fact that money will NOT bring championships.

Hmmm. It must be real nice to be in a position to turn down $5 million dollars a year.

Managers come and go but I'll still love my Yankees. Life goes on.

I think it was a set up. They wanted him to say no so they wouldnt look like the bad guys (i.e., "Hey, we 'tried'!")
