in the mideval day mental illness was mistaken for a
person be possessed by the devil and till this day some still believe that.

People can believe they are possessed by the Devil, and that the whispering voice is talking to them in the back of their minds and telling them to kill. They can also believe that the same thing is being told to them by God.
But what is it really, you might wonder? Insanity. Purely and simply, the person being 'possessed' by the devil is just so utterly insane that it doesn't matter what tells them to kill, they can't help themselves anyway.
So, in short; they're ill, not possessed.

There are powerful spirits in this world. Far more than just "the Devil" And yes they can enter a person's body, comunicate with them, and in some cases control their actions. What you choose to call these spirits may be defined by your particular spiritual beliefs and upbringing. But it can and does happen. Some people even choose to open themselves up to possessing spirits to gain access to their energy and knowledge. It should not be done lightly. Many spirits do not take kindly to being used in this way.

No. The devil is not real. Possession is only in the imagination. In order for a person to speak to an entity such as a spirit, they have to invite it to communicate.

Deffinatly not....Methinks you might have seen "The Exorcist" to many times. Do not be misled by people who suffer from "There is a devil"...syndrome. Acting in a possesive way is a deffinate sign of a possible mental illness....having nothing to do and never will do with possession of anything christianity cooked up to put the fear of god in you. Relax, enjoy life.....live a lot.

We as a society are more enlightened via technology/knowledge etc.
So today, other causes are looked for. eg. maybe illness of some kind.
Some people still believe it is possible to be possessed though. Respect for different cultures is important, so I dont think anyone has the right to say whether it is real or not.

people are capable of *claiming* to be possessed by the devil...i.e. doing something horrific and blaming it on possession. the human brain is a sick thing at times, yet also amazingly developed when it comes to winning sympathy/finding an excuse

Yes, devil can possessed humans but if we have a strong faith in God devil can't possessed us.

Yes they can be possesed, but I kinda doubt possessed by the "devil."
