In the tragedy of julius ceasar, ceasar's friends turn against him and plot to kill him. what are some of the conspirators motives in killing ceasar? why did they want him killed?

After assuming control of government, he began extensive reforms of Roman society and government. He was proclaimed dictator for life, and he heavily centralised the bureaucracy of the Republic. These events provoked a hitherto friend of Caesar, Marcus Junius Brutus, and a group of other senators, to assassinate the dictator on the Ides of March (March 15) in 44 BC.

Because the Roman Senate believed he was the threat to the Roman Republic and would consider himself as the ultimate leader and dictator and the Senate would lose its power as the co-judgment of the people. With Caesar he would be absolute ruler .

He was planning to abolish the Republic. Romans were extremely fond of republic, since the time they expelled the last king, Tarquinius Superbus. Even the later Roman emperors kept the republican magistrate's titles. Marcus Brutus was the descendant of Lucius Brutus, the man who actually expelled the last king.

Rome was a republic, where power was widely shared. They were very proud of their democratic institutions. Caesar overthrew the republic and became emperor, with all the power in his own hands. People wanted to go back to a more democratic way of life.
