Margaret. The other one is kind of pretentious.

Margaret all the way for an English speaking child unless there's a really good reason for using Marguerite. It just has too much going on, people are likely to misspell it.

Margaret and variant name Marguerite both mean Pearl
Margaret is of Greek origin , while Marguerite is Old French.

I prefer Marguerite -- Rolls off the tongue and sounds more feminine

I prefer Margaret, personally -- and love the nicknames Maggie or Maisie, if you'd use them ;) -- but it really depends on which PRONUNCIATION you like best.

Margaret is pretty straightforward, so I'll assume you're familiar with that, but Marguerite is the French form, and not said identically. That would be mar-ge-REET. If you are French, and didn't mean you'd be pronouncing them the same, it's a nice nod to your heritage and a lovely idea. Otherwise, I still prefer Margaret. ;)

Hope that helps.

I prefer Margaret. Marguerite is pronounced differently. Unless you're French it sounds pretentious.
