I have learned to accept them for a very important reason. When you rebuff the person, you risk hurting his or her feelings if it was a compliment given honestly. If you fire back or refuse a compliment, you are telling that person that his or her judgment is wrong and could be insinuating that it is a lie. I've complimented people and had my compliment thrown back at me, and it DOES hurt! I do not hand out compliments lightly, and it's discouraging when your judgment seems to be questioned.
Does that make sense? Just say, "Thank you" and smile. That's all you need to do.
Besides, I've worked at jobs where all I heard was criticism, even when I know I did an excellent job. They left it to the customers to compliment me. Even then, my boss often would HIDE the letters and notes from me! The customer service representatives began delivering copies directly to me. Trust me: Compliments can do a lot for a person's frame of mind. Your compliment might be the only one that person has received, so you might be making someone's day or even week!

It depends on the person. If it's a guy, I gladly accept them. If it's a girl, I will question her motive. Perhaps I look really stupid and she wants me to stay looking that way - so she throws me a fake compliment. Most of the time I gladly accept them.

I accept them graciously. If it was well meant, that makes the person feel special. For instance, I often get compliments on my long hair. Here is my reply, "How very kind of you to say such a nice thing.". I feel that is a compliment to them right back.
Even if the person is not being sincere, by saying that, you have put them in their place without them even realizing it.

Depends on the person. If it's a regular person, I gladly accept them. But if it's someone who hates me, doesn't talk to me or regularly makes fun of me, then I definitely question it.

It depends on who the compliments are from. If they're from someone I'm close to, and can trust, then I definitely accept them. If they're from someone I know well, but don't trust as much, then I question them. And if they're from someone I don't know very well, or at all, then of course I question them.

It depends on where they are coming from. For example, some people if they gave me a compliment. I would know right off they wanted something.
