don't get me wrong im not homophobic at all, im just genuinly curious about this. Do you think gay and lesbian people are 'born' gay (ie, its in their genes) or they just simply grow up attracted to the same sex? I know this is not as simple as this, but id just like to hear people's opinions.

similarly, do you think being straight is learned or genetic? Do we just accept what society tells us is correct, or is it infact that you think its just natural for men to be with women and vice versa?

sorry if i touched a sore spot for some. i didnt actually ask if people chose to be gay. i asked if they think its genetic (born gay if you wanna use yhat term) or as a result of, say, environmental circumstances.

I think homosexuality is genetic. Scientific researchers who specialize in human sexuality have shown that homosexuality is linked to biology and genetics.

An October 2004 scientific research publication stated that scientists at the University of Padua have found that women tend to have more children when they inherit the same genetic factors linked to homosexuality in men. This fertility boost more than compensates for the lack of offspring fathered by gay men, and keeps the “gay” genetic factors in circulation.

A study published in Human Genetics in February 2006 examined X chromosome inactivation in mothers of gay sons and mothers whose sons were not gay. Researchers found extreme differences between women who had gay sons and women who did not.

Another scientific study said that researchers have known for years that a man's likelihood of being gay rises with the number of older biological brothers, but the new study found that the so-called "fraternal birth order effect" persists even if gay men were raised away from their biological families. The older-brother effect was constant regardless of whether the men were raised with natural, adopted or stepbrothers. It also didn't matter if they weren't raised with their biological mothers.

Within the scientific community there is a lot of in-fighting about how much genes influence your behavior, and how much it your environment contributes. There is no definite answer. Personally I'm an advocate for the environment being the main determinant of behavior, except in the case of chemical imbalances

Homosexuality doesn't fall within this argument for me, though. Most parents (who weren't in complete denial) will tell you that they saw signs that their kid was gay/lesbian from the time they were little. Many homosexual people who live in intolerant communities will enter into heterosexual relationships, even marrying and having children, but will be absolutely miserable until they're true to themselves. So no, I don't think it's a "learned behavior."

I have a biology degree, but have never really studied anything about genetics/hormones/etc. on this subject. All I know is, people should be free to do what they feel is right and what makes them happy, and there really doesn't need to be an explanation as to why.

it's likely a combination of several factors, some of which may be genetic. there have been some studies linking genetics to homosexuality. there are likely factors concerning biology and child development. i don't know if it can be learned, but if there is a learning aspect it occurs very early in one's life. it's likely that the identification for homosexuality or bisexuality happens long before the onset of puberty. if you google it on the web, there will be many lines of evidence for any and all of these.
as for myself, i always sensed i was different from other kids very early on (age 5/6).

i think it truly is a mixture of the two . . . anybody wonders what it may be like . . . I relatively have . . . yet i'm in the present day. i does no longer do it because of the fact what I discovered approximately what's in touch . . . yet I won't say that i'm no longer intrigued. I perfer women human beings . . . each and everything approximately them . . . they're sooo plenty greater advantageous looking than men (maximum women human beings will agree and so will some men). Genetically, i think of it truly is in anybody . . . (Kinsley record proves it). even though it is likewise a discovered habit . . . in case you have greater excitement being male to male - male to female - female to female . . . to that end defining our orientation. Who be attentive to the female physique greater . . . a male or yet another female . . . yet another female does . . . yet women human beings on celebration like slightly greater which become attentive to with bi- situation. As for you question . . . i could say it truly is the two.

Genetic, definitely. One of the various expressions of the natural world. Even in the animal kingdom there are innumerable species that exhibit homosexual behavior. It's genetic and is also completely natural.

Honey, I am not trying to be mean -- but you should go somewhere else to ask this question. I've been getting it all my life.

And in non-detail format -- I can assure you, I didn't choose to be something that society would hate, God would allegedly hate, and something that would got picked on in the girls locker room.

Sometimes I can't understand how that isn't enough evidence for people. Of course there is more to it than that, but I am sure if you do your research (you can even search right here on Y!A's), you will get what we know to be true.

I believe, that i was born gay. I have always been attracted to boys, and the only girls I've ever been interested in look like guys. Then of course the attraction only goes so far, as i have no interest in "female plumbing". I've tried being intimate with girls, but its like "shooting pool with a rope"... it just does not work. Never ever had that problem with guys. Needless to say, once i accepted who i was, i became a happier and healthier person.

I personally believe that its all natural- some are born to be straight, whereas others are born to be gay or bisexual.

However, it is pushed on us to be straight by the media, and therefore many are straight...but in the closet.
