The impact of warm and cold air masses can cause all kinds of weather phenomena, e.g rain, but most notably it's the collision of warm and cold air masses that cause the formation of funnel clouds or tornadoes. For instance, in "Tornado Alley" here in the US, warm air from the Gulf of Mexico collides with cold air from Canada causing cloud rotation and eventual tornadoes.

Warm air being less dense will be lifted up by the dense cold air if they meet.In this process, if the warm air contains enough moisture, condensation may occur producing clouds and thereby precipitation. If the movement of the warm air over the cold air is faster, vertical motion of the air will be vigorous producing turbulence and severe thunderstorms.
