Forget about the money for a minute folks you are all missing the point. it's amatter of how they strung him out. First they tell him that if he doesn't win his series against Cleveland that he will be fired. then they don't fire him afterwards but say they will think about bringing him back and then they lowballed him to top it all off.

I think it goes down to the fact that the pinstripers and that is Steinbrenner and sons think they are supposed to win it all every year which is to me disrespectful of the entire league that they have competent baseball players as well as they do. I do not know if you remember but I said the Yankees Achilles Heel would be their starting pitcher due to age and lack of depth. Joe Torre managed 4of 5 world champion teams which in this day and age due to free adency and parity for the sake of competition and to help the lower level paying teams makes this nearly impossible. I think it is almost torture to do this to a man who has done so much for this historic franchise. Get it over with and you know they are going to release him from the Yankees . The sons will probably want somebody new and a lot of players like Rivera want torre back that by making him an offer it may look like Torre is turning them down instead of the Yankee management letting them down by getting rid of Torre. Whatever the case may be the Yankees have sunk to a low here and not the classy franchise they have been.

Amen on the whole submit. As an Indians fan, I asked myself that very comparable question approximately why the Indians can no longer get their 2nd in the solar. The Indians advance to the ALCS however the proper tale is Torre. think of ESPN might have achieved a reversal if Larry Dolan had stated the two Mark Shapiro or Eric Wedge are fired if the Indians do no longer take the series? Heck - maximum folk do no longer even know who they're. we don't get to work out lots of west coast communities, in all probability by way of time differential. while the Indians play on the west coast, the newspapers are no longer as much as date...etc. because of the time difference. A "activities" station like ESPN desires to shrink the unfairness, each and every of how around. till now the Indians gained the AL regular, ESPN announcers stated if the Indians did no longer win it via winning outright they could sneak in the lower back door with Tigers losses -at that factor Cleveland in simple terms had to win one sport or Detroit lose one sport. in spite of the indisputable fact that, the Indians had a SEVEN sport lead in the branch so wtf replaced into that approximately sneaking in the lower back door? those announcers are so biased that's sickening. it is not in simple terms dissing the west coast yet any team no longer ny or Boston or possibly even Atlanta and that's unquestionably incorrect.

Kris actually makes sense. They knew he'd refuse a pay cut and a non multi year deal. It makes Joe look like the bad guy for turning down the contract. This way, the fans hate Torre and see him as a guy who turned his back on the team, instead of seeing the true villains are the men in the front office.

Boy you're sensitive. It's NEW YORK and it's a business! George wants to win, he gave Torre everything he needed to do so and he came up empty. His statement during the playoffs was pressuring, but that's what happens when you play ball in the Bronx. I think people also forget that Torre's four rings came in five years (96,98,99,00). That was a completely different team. Something just clicked with them. Maybe a new face, personality and new coaching styles might put them back in that click.

YOU KNOW BUDDY LET ME EXPLIAN THIS TO YOU CUZ IT REALLY IS BOTHERING ME TOO!!!!! This is a pro sport, and apparently many fans (including myself) are gettin a memo. ;THIS IS A BUISNESS! Players have no loyalty to us (the fans). The orginization show no loyalty t thier player ( Bernie Williams) or their managers ( Joe Torre). He did a great job this year. u star 22-29 and 14.5 back on division. You yell and scream and start to motivate and you win. you win and you win somemore. you turn the season aound after a terrible 2 months and thn you make it back fish a mere 3.5 games out and make the playoffs. But guess what, the players start playing like it is april again and Torre's great team turn around means CRAP. Cuz you play to win and Nothing LESS in NEW YORK> its terrible he deeserves better.

I agree with the enforcer. Who in their right mind turns down $ 5 million a year to manage the Yankees? Nodody.

He would still be the highest paid manager in the game.

How in the hell is $5 million dollars a year disrespectful?

No other manager even comes close. If he thinks he can do better than more power to him.

I know there a ton of managers out there that would take that $5 million a year and that phatt team in a heartbeat.

They didn't want the fans to turn on them, so they made him a low-ball offer to stay, so that way it looked like they tried.

Good for Torre for saying no!

There is no such thing as rude in business. There is no nice, or mean, or hateful or friendly. There is only profit and loss. Sports is a business. Instead of profit and loss, it is winning and losing.
