While I don't have a favorite recordeng, the Fantasia written by Ralph Vaughan Williams is my favorite version of it.

Yes, yes! Definitely the Vaughn Williams. That man could'a taken "Turkey in the Straw" and turned it into pure bliss . Any ol' recording by a major symphony will do.

Hard to say for a musical piece thats been around since 1580.
I have heard rock versions and classical ones...it is all about your taste.
