You obviously know something about anatomy if you are saying you have shoulder pain and its not the rotator cuff. Pain is usually caused by inflammation. Inflammation can be treated several different ways. Massage, heat, ice, therapy, anti-inflammatories taken over the course of 3-4 days. Ice is most successful at treating inflammation along with the anti-inflammatories such as Advil or Aleve. If the pain doesn't go away within a week or so after trying this approach, then I would schedule an appointment with an orthopedist.

A lot depends on the type of injury.
Most will heal by themselves given rest
and LIGHT exercise.
If it continues to give you trouble for more
than a few days, .... its 'doctor` time.
