My Daddy would play this George Jones song over and over and over......I still cry when I hear it.

He said I'll love you 'til I die
She told him you'll forget in time
As the years went slowly by
She still preyed upon his mind

He kept her picture on his wall
Went half crazy now and then
He still loved her through it all
Hoping she'd come back again

Kept some letters by his bed
Dated 1962
He had underlined in red
Every single I love you

I went to see him just today
Oh but I didn't see no tears
All dressed up to go away
First time I'd seen him smile in years

(Chorus)
He stopped loving her today
They placed a wreath upon his door
And soon they'll carry him away
He stopped loving her today

(Spoken)
You know she came to see him one last time
Oh and we all wondered if she would
And it kept running through my mind
This time he's over her for good

Peace.

Mr. Trash is just a young pup! I was all of 18 when that Foreigner song came out... still remember slow dancing to it with this girl I was sweet on... we were both on a field trip to Washington, D.C. with our respective high schools... she was from Washington state...it IS a very haunting tune... anyway, I digress - I'm not sure if there is a song from my childhood that HAUNTS me, but my Mom and her sister used to love that song from Wings called "Mull Of Kintyre", whenever it came on the radio in the morning before school, my Mom would call her sister or vice-versa, and my Mom and us kids would listen to it.... it can be very moving, what with the bagpipes and all... plus, it was 'our song' when I was dating a Scottish lass in college.

There are many songs from my adulthood that when listening to, my eyes usually well-up...

great question... great George Jones song, if quite sad.

The one song...

Little bunny, Foo Foo
Hopping through the forest
Scooping up the field mice
And bopping them on the head
Down came the Good Fairy and she said,
"Little bunny, Foo Foo
I don't want to see you
Scooping up the field mice
And bopping them on the head."
Another version is

"Little Bunny Foo Foo
Hoppin' through the forest
Scoopin' up the field mice
Bop 'em on the head!
Then the Good Fairy came and said:
'Little Bunny Foo Foo
I don't wanna see you
Scoopin' up the field mice
Bop 'em on the head!
I'll give you 3 chances,
And if you don't behave, I'll turn you into a goon."
Then, the song continues, with field gnomes, field dogs, and field lice, as well as 2 more chances, 1 more chance, and "I am going to turn you into a goon."

I swear that is the saddest song ever made! When I was a kid, I never really stopped to think about what the lyrics meant. When I got older and actually realized that the guy was dead, it made me cry.
