A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, design a building, write a sonnet, ballance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate and analyze a problem, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently and to die gallantly. Specialization is for insects. Who wrote this?? I think it packs a bunch of weight.

1973 - A Time for Love by Robert Heinlein, one of my all time favorite science fiction writers.

In fact, I had this quote on my cubicle wall, to advise my boss that I while I should be able to do everything, I could not do everything, but it went over his head.

thanks for asking. I no longer work for that guy!

I'm guessing that it was a woman who wrote that piece. Was it Eleanor Roosevelt?

Okay, I just read the other answers. Who on earth is this Robert Heinlein person? (I'm impressed. A man who admires the ability to change a diaper!)

A man really wrote this?! Science fiction for sure. It does "pack a bunch of weight"! Wonderful quote.
