When you put for the ladies/girls or for the men/guys then you invite speculation from the other side as is the case here so.
If someone describes you as a "spunky lady" in this country it has certain connotations that are not necessarily pleasant but in most other places it should mean that you are imaginative and full of gusto.

I think it is an unfortunate phrase and one which should stay in the U.S.
