My experience is that Prozac will even out your moods. On the bright side, it will lessen the depression and the anxiety. On the negative side, it will feel at times like you have no emotions at all.

If your anxiety is related to an imbalance in your system and has no "real world" cause, then it will help. If your anxiety and depression are related to some circumstances in your life that is a motivating factor in your moods, it can cause the self mutilation to be worse. It just depends. Be sure to have regular counseling with someone while you are on it to make sure that any real world problems are also addressed, as this drug, despite some doctor reviews, is not a cure all by any means.

I have never been on Prozac (I took Paxil) but my sister tried them for the depression, anxiety and agoraphobia, it didn't help her, after a few months, she couldn't sleep or eat because she always had stomach cramps and she also felt like her head was in a fog like state.

I started reading and studying more on natural ways to deal with illness and found this more interesting than stuffing my face with all kinds of pills with so many side effects. I have to tell you that there is really no simple answer, except that exercise is one of the best medicine for depression as well as a really good diet (1 banana a day has really helped me plus a brisk walk every day or any exercise and make sure you eat a good breakfast).

Explore all your options and find one that best suits YOU! Do some research of your own and you will be able to decide with all the facts.
Good luck and courage! You'll be fine :)

I have been on Prozac. It worked great at first - after taking the first pill, I did not feel like crying, something I had not felt in a long time. However, after a few months, I started getting side effects. I could not sleep, I could not eat, had chronic diarrhea and walked around like a zombie, half feeling. I stopped taking it. (btw you should never stop Prozac cold turkey, it causes the withdrawal you mentioned) I had seen
a psychiatrist, but she did not help at all. (I got sick of hearing myself talk with no resolution)

I read an article that said Prozac was as effective as exercise. (Exercise increases serotonin levels) So, I started working out. And I started seeing a social worker. She was great!! But the number one thing that helped me was a book my mom got for me called Depression Free for Life, A Physician's All-Natural, 5-Step Plan by Dr. Gabriel Cousens. That book completely changed my life!!

Through the book I learned how to beat depression naturally, with no side effects!!

There are a lot of natural remedies that help with depression. My ex-bf suffered from the same thing, social anxiety and depression. He did not want to be put on Prozac, but his therapist kept pushing it. I had him read the book. He took the recommendations and took 5 HTP and no longer suffers from either!! (5 HTP is a natural supplement and needed by the body to make serotonin) He never went on Prozac.

People these days think that problems can be fixed by a pill, when they can't. Depression and social anxiety are so much more than Prozac or any pill can fix.

Please, check out the book and have your therapist check it out. You can beat this thing and regain your life!! If you have any questions, please email me. :o)

Usually prozac is not used for adolescents, but other SSRI drugs like Paxil or Zoloft may help you. These work on your serotonin imbalance. If you do not have clinical depression, they dont work. All drugs have side effects, but if you truly have clinical depression using the correct medication along with counseling will help.

I was on Prozac for depression for several months. My body straightened itself out and I did not require to take it longer.

Good luck, I hope this helps.

So in spite of taking a a million/2 pill the 1st few days he could nevertheless no longer observe a difference. in case you hassle i might call the everyday practitioner returned who prescribed it and ask them approximately that and enable them to appreciate you study that and it relatively is an element results of the drug. it relatively is well worth a decision in case you question me. good success hun. i'm hoping he gets greater acceptable.

I am currently on Prozac and it seems to work well for me. However, like all medications, the effects varies with each individual. The only you would know if you should take it is to try it and see what happens. Good luck to you. Take care. Peace!! ☺

I've taken prozac before for depression and it relaxed me to the point that if someone held a gun to my head, I wouldn't care. I eventually took myself off and I've been okay every since. I didn't notice any side effects and I didn't become addicted to it.
