break down these high achievers salaries to the equivalent of working at McDonald's, how PO'ed would you be?

All the employees are on salary ... they don't get paid for overtime.

Well, the high achievers often put in an extra 25 hours a week....

My co-worker, who works the bare minimum, actually says to them, "If you were to take your salary and divide it by the number of hours that you work, it would be equivalent to a McDonald's working wage".

Have you ever heard of someone doing this?

well the only sensible reply to that is because they are hard workers.....and when the company is going through rough times, it's people like that co worker who will be laid off first

A company can only do this to true managerial personnel. Lots of companies give the title of "manager" to an employee and none of the responsibility, thereby not making him/her a true manager. In this event, the company owes overtime. My suggestion is if these employees are not managers, they should go, as a group the the Dept. of Labor Wage & Hour Division.

Are you sure that they are exempt from the overtime rules?

There can be 2 different classifications: Exempt and Non-Exempt for salaried employees.

If they should get paid OT (as per rules in FLSA), they should get paid for it.

high achievers often work more hours than
'average' workers that is why they are 'high achievers'.
ur coworker's rational works to satisfy her postition in life. so she should be happy.
the 'McD's working wage' thing does not figure out true when all things are added.

Yes but in the long run a high achiever will progress their career and make more money. Your coworker does not take this into consideration.

Truth hurts. Ya know the old saying "work smarter not harder". If hard work was where it's at plowhorses would be running our society.

I would tell the person where he could shove the overtime.

"I am certainly glad that this person has time during his working hours to do this"!:( "If this is part of his job that would be one thing, but if is not part of his job "THE BOSS SHOULD REALIZE THIS PERSON HAS TOOOOOOOOOO
MUCH TIME ON HIS HANDS, AND FIND SOMETHING TO KEEP HIM OCCUPIED"!:O
