Yamaha Sr 125

You see that tiny little engine down there? You see that upright riding position you're sat in? See that "125" sticker on the side panel?

That's your bike, that is.

You're doing well to get to an indicated 65 on it. An SR125 engine isn't economically tuneable either, so you're going to have to put up with it.

The suggestion to change your sprockets is laughable, the engine doesn't produce enough power to pull the higher gearing. The other daft suggestion someone usually says is to put a K+N air filter on it, that won't work either.

Don't (whatever you do) borrow a GPS to check the speedo. I suspect you'll be seeing a sub-60 MPH top speed with 55 MPH cruising.

Easy Tiger! - De-Restricting will blow the SR to bits eventually!.

You are getting a decent speed from the bike, buy a bigger bike as the SR is a very light bike and 65mph is ok, but much more and stability would become a problem......... are you in the UK?........ have you passed your big bike test?, if not do it now as its going to get a lot more complicated (and only 60 test centres). If you have passed, then trade up, decent 125's always fetch good money and can set you up for a Virago 535 or VT750 etc etc

Well to be fair not really much you can do with out getting your cash out I had a Aprillia SR125 I put a k&n style filter a race pipe and it done about 80-85 but the pipe was about £250 and the filter well jack sh!t prob £15 but this was about 5 years ago!

Your best bet is to just stick with it mate till you get a motor. O and you CAN'T de restrict a 125 as they are not restricted 50cc's are but not 125cc!

Take care buddy!

You can't and quite frankly from an SR125 you would not want too much more, as the handling, brakes and so on would not be capable of much more.

Actually you could get more speed but always at the expense of something else and to be honest the gains avaialable would be minimal, so either enjoy the bike for what it is or trade up for something bigger.

The SR-125 is not restricted.

It is built to develop 12bhp and no more. There aren't any widgets in the exhaust, carb or ignition that can be removed / tweaked / modified / changed to get more power.

Yamaha designed it to develop 12bhp and 12bhp is all you will get (unless you bore it out - which will make it as reliable as a politicians promise...).

you could put a bigger sprocket on the front or a smaller sprocket on the rear, but that's only going to get you more top end speed and it will also cause you to lose low end torque. you have to be willing to sacrifice your take off power for more top end speed. But I agree with everyone else and think you should leave it alone, but you asked the question and i answered.
