This happened to me today. After it stalled, I waited about 20 minutes to try to turn the ignition key back on and the car started. However, the engine light is still on. I even filled up my radiator fluid to the line because I noticed it was low when I lifted up my hood to check my engine. Other than that, I didn't see anything out of the ordinary. What could it be? Thanks!

One more thing I like to add is that I haven't drove it for about 2 weeks. Would letting it sit having anything to do with this?

You could possibly have an engine problem, your oil might be low, it could be an oxygen sensor. When my engine light came on it was only my oxygen sensor that needed changed but I never stalled out. Take it to a mechanic they have equipment to test the engine to see what's wrong with it.

the cap could have definitely been the cause, that will cause a misfire and cause the check engine light (cel) dirty battery cables really wouldnt cause the car to just shut off out of nowhere. chances are if the cap was really lose that was your problem. disconnecting the battery will cause the codes to reset so unless it comes on again you won't know what the code was.

Your engine may look fine on the outside but inner problems may be to blame. It may be that your spark plugs/oxygen coil sensors went bad. Where I live they have a auto store called Auto zone, if you have a check engine light on, they check your car for free if the light is lit. I wouldn't ignore it. Your car is warning it may drive fine but hidden issue are soon to happen without notice.

You need to get it checked. It could be something major or something as simple as your gas cap isn't on tight enough. Go fill up and turn the cap until it click a few times. If it's still on after driving a few times, get it looked at.

It was fuel related (because it stalls), sensors are usually located at exhaust. maybe bad fuel, or something got stock and run too rich or too lean. If is now working fine you still need to check it in and have the sensor reset.

Which engine light?
The yellow one ( check engine) means there is something wrong in your emission controls
The red one (Oil) usually means your oil pump has gone bad and you 're about to seize the engine....

I would take it to Kragen or Autozone and they can scan your vehicle for free and will tell you what sensor is wrong. I could be your fuel system. Just a guest, but go to those store to be sure.

My car used to stall. I took it to a garage, it was a blocked air intake valve.
