I am a fairly well known liberal, but anyone, without felony records, etc, should be allowed to have a hand gun in their home for self protection. I suspect if I had found the guy in my house I would have had to hire someone to clean up the mess I would have made of him.
This gu is Lucky to be alive and should thank the owners for not killing him.
I have my Smith and Wesson, and plan to keep it. Next to that stupid shotgun I won in a contest.
To the fellow above me, the skylight thing is an Urban Legend. See Snope.com

I read once that a man trying to get into a house to rob it fell from the skylight and got hurt, he sued for med bills and won.
To the guy who said some guns should be banned you could not be more wrong, not only would you put leverage on other guns that other people feel should be banned but you would cause a mass buying effort for the guns that would be banned.
When Cliton and her husband were in office they put forth a ban on all large capacity guns, one was the 590 Mossberg, when I found out it was going to be I ordered one, it took my over 2 months to get it because everyone bought them up.
In CA they banned sales of 50BMG guns from the likes of Barrettriflers.com this IS a violation of the constitution, why nobody is doing anything about this i'm not sure.
The fact is that after a 911 call it takes on average 20mins for anyone to show up, most rapes happen in the first 10. It's about choice, ask any cop if he or she has a loaded gun in the bedroom.
Do you need a 50BMG round? Well deer hunting with it is stupid unless its 2 miles away. However one only needs to look at katrina. If you were cut off from any help , no police no military how would you feel about a single shot 12G as your only protection?
Anyone can be "had" at any time, the people who have money and live in gated homes don't think about why anyone might need a 100round drum for an AK-47 but WHEN crap happens you need to protect yourself and your love ones.
If I had a 50BMG I would be able to take apart a Mack Truck engine if I had to, I could kill the person or persons hiding behind cars or even kill people at distance.
I think that background checks should be in place and I support the bill going on right now.
Should you ban guns that some people think are unnecessary no, that would only cause a flood of people to get one, and the people who would use them in crime will get them anyhow.
I have a small amount a guns, I have a permit to have one on me. Do you trust the police to all ways be around and come to your aid just in time? If you do your a fool, and nature has a way of getting rid of the stupid.(unprotected sex , sharing needles, democrats, drunk driving)
Think about it, trust yourself or trust a 911 operator that has to call a dispatcher that calls a cop while mins tick away.

I am a liberal and I don't support banning all guns. I believe there are certain firearms and other weapons which should not be readily available to the public and I do support a full ban on those types of weapons. I feel that I have never had use for a gun and likely will never have use for a gun. And I make the CHOICE not to have a gun in my home or around my family.
Take a look at it, the gun in this instance did nothing to deter the crime and likely would do nothing to deter a future crime. Though I'm sure the victims feel much better that they were able to catch one of the perpetrators. As for me, I have no gun, no use for one. If someone decides to steal from me, I just ask that they take more then my insurance deductible.

Strange as it sounds, in America today, the guy probably has the law on his side. Forced, uncompensated labor without due process would seem to fit under slavery or indentured servitiude, even though he was responsible for making the mess in the first place. Hopefully, the owner will be let go on a warning, next time shoot the SOB and clean the mess up yourself

If this guy has the nerve to initiate a lawsuit, the judge should take punitive action against him: send the doofus to work for a week at the local jail, cleaning all the bathrooms on his hands and knees, as well as washing, drying, and folding laundry.
For good measure, have him clean out all the grease traps in the kitchen, and scour everything in sight.
Maybe this will prevent a couple future frivlous lawsuits.

The burglar will probably file suit and claim distress because he had a gun pointed at him. As a home owner and family man I would have done the same thing. This guy is lucky he is still alive. I have to admit, I would have at least put one in his butt. In Idaho it is only a misdemeanor to shoot someone below the waste. As a concealed permit owner and gun carrier I do not believe in banning all guns, only the fully auto weapons that nobody should have except the military and local authorities.

he might file suit, not surprising a thief would also be a whiner, they are incensed when their civil liberties 'are denied' them.
i think it is just he had to clean up his mess, rather creative punishment but i bet the ACLU will have a different take on it and represent him for free.
we have the "make my day' law here in Oklahoma and it is not uncommon to see news about the thief being shot and killed. maybe they will think twice and for those who coddle them such as the one poster here and whine about 'cowboys', well give me a good old cowboy any day of the week. they work hard and ask nothing from no one and are ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need so quit insulting cowboys. if you don't know any then you should not make judgments like that.

I love this story, I heard it on the radio this morning... Same thing happened last year when a guy going to cut grass at his father's house who was away found a burglar inside.. He held the man at gun point and made him cut grass till the law arrested him.. Classic, only in the south... huh

I don't think I'd want a sleaze like this touching my stuff, even if he had made a mess of things. I would have taken him outside and had him lay on the ground until the police arrived with a reminder to the assailant from time to time of whom was holding the weapon.

Actually I had a burglar once and the police came into my room and woke me up. (I was pretending to be asleep.)
They questioned me as they thought I was the burglar. My room was a mess, looked like a bomb had hit it.
(Clean up your room kids and this won't happen to you! LOL!)
