y+y+2=18
combine like terms
2y+2=18
-18 -18
subtract 18 from each side
2y+(-16)=0 or 2y-16=0
+16 +16
now add 16 to each side
2y=16
/2 /2
now divide each side by 2
y=8
the answer is y=8
and that is how you do that problem
i know that and im in 9th grade

2y+2-2=18-2
2y=16
2y/2=16/2

subrtact 2 from 18 and divide by 2
