What do you guys think? I think just because a person has a felony on there record they should in time be able to have the rights to bare arms. Lets say you were 18 and did something stupid like shop lifting and now 10 years down the road you have a family and good job. Your criminal days are over but you still cannot have any type weapon to protect your family. Now I say certain crimes you should not be able to posses any firearms like murder, rape, aggrivated assult with a deadly weapon, etc..... but not all felony convictions should keep you from protecting yourself especially after you have paid debt to society. Keeping felons from carrying weapons in my opinion does not stop crime!!!! There are people everyday without a felony that commit crimes with a weapon and it will never change! Give me your best opinion. God bless!

I find it interesting the goverment has exceptions to pretty much every rule but this one.
Bouncing over $1,000 worth of checks is a felony in WI, but I don't see where keeping this person from owing a gun is going to keep society safer.
Like everything else in the courtroom, this should be looked at on an individual basis, and consider
The type of offense
If the offense was violent
How long since the offense
What has this person done with their life since the offense
I think there should be no exception for violent offenders, but they rest should be given the above test.

I don't think shoplifting is a felony...............And no convicted felons should not be allowed to have firearms. By 18 you are considered and adult and you know the difference between right and wrong you chose wrong you suffer the rest of your life! But you are right keeping felons from having firearms does not stop crime anybody that wants a weapon can get it, unfortunately. If these brats had some sense knocked into their heads, or bottoms, before they reached adulthood maybe there wouldn't be so much crime! Kids having kids and not knowing how to raise them, giving them whatever they want when they want it, no discipline just stay out of the parents way, do whatever they want to do attitude of this world is a big part of the problem. do the crime do the time if the time lasts a lifetime then dang the luck! Should of considered that before you did it!! Think Ahead!

If a felon has completed his complete sentence, i.e. no early release, no parole, complete sentence --- then he should be allowed to have all the civil rights that any other citizen has.
Just as a citizen can speak, read, travel, address grievances, be subject to legal searches and seizures, etc then that individual is by right entitled to process arms to defend his life, defends his home, and his property.
The idea that you could restrict rights after one has paid his debt to society (completely) would in my opinion be a violation of the concept of attainder or corrupt of blood.
When John Dean was convicted in Watergate --- he did not lose his rights to speech or press -- he should be allowed to defends his home, his lovely wife Maureen, and his country. As should any other citizen who had made and repaid his mistakes to society.

Hmm.....is he a handsome felon? Does he have nice biceps? (I'm a sucker for big biceps!)
If his arms are sexy he can bare all he wants.
Now should he have the right to bEAr arms - depends. I think that after a certain time frame nonviolent felons should get the right to own a firearm back if he has not reoffended.

I agree with the bare arms look. A short sleeve shirt even works with a tie. Remember Scipowitz?

Shoplifting does not a felon make. You gotta do a really bad deed to become a felon--then you are in line for years of hard time.
We shouldn't go around giving bad dudes weapons. It's just a bad idea--like letting HIV positive people have random and frequent unprotected sex.

yes i dont see a problem with a felon wearing a short sleeved shirt in order to bare his arms
But in all seriousness I think he should be able to protect his family just fine with the "protection from butt rape" fighting skills he picked up in the pen
Yes but that is BEAR ARMS

Yes, they should all be allowed to roll up their sleeves and put in a hard day's work.
