I've always wondered how my fish would react if I jumped into the aquarium with them; if they would approach me, or hide, or swim excitedly and kiss me...
Has anyone ever done this before? And has anyone else wondered the same thing, or am I 'unique'?

Jedidah,
I've had the same experience since I feed my fish by hand. I'll hold an algae wafer, and my mollies are awesome, they will kiss my hand first then eat the algae disk. Those lips of theres make it even more adorable.

Jez,
that's a really cool story, thx for sharing, but I do not endorse releasing fish into the wild, not that I give a crap.

I have, on occasion, swum with my koi while doing pond maintenance. Koi are normally pretty friendly fish, but when a big, two-legged, hairy air-breather with opposable thumbs instead of fins gets in the pond with them, they sort of freak out for a bit.
The longer I'm in there, the more used to it they get, until finally, their curiosity gets the better of them. Then, they will swim around me, entwine themselves around my feet and legs, maybe even kiss my ankles (maybe they are just seeing if I taste good.....). If I reach out to try to touch them at all, though, they back off really quickly, but as long as I am still and just let them approach me, they are fine with it - actually, very inquisitive, even.
It is kind of fun and kind of weird at the same time, because I am so obviously out of my element there in the pond. I have all the power when I'm on land, whereas when I'm in the water with them, THEY call all the shots - LOL!
Good question, though....

Weird question, but the answer is yes. Several years ago I bought a Red Pacu from the local tropical fish store. He started out in a 20 gallon aquarium for about a year then graduated to a 55 gallon show tank where he happily lived for about 2 more years. But then I moved to a smaller place in the country with no room for the aquarium so I released him into the small lake behind the house and forgot about him...Till one day I was swimming in the small lake and much to my surprise he came to visit me! He was in the neighborhood of 8 to 10 lbs *( Size of a 50 cent piece when I bought him ) He swam around me brushing up against me and looking at me, it was way kewl. Other people that swim in the lake swear something bites them, I just laugh, I know it's my bacu looking for me.

Unless you'll be able to see small white dots at the fins and/or frame, its now not Ich. It sounds as though he both has a fugal/bacterial contamination, or did certainly get a wound of a few kind, and its inflamed. First factor to do, difference the water and upload just a little aquarium salt (NOT desk salt). This will support with the swelling and treatment, and construct up his slime coating to look after him towards additional contamination. Second, get a few therapy. There is a product in the market referred to as MelaFix which is helping heal wounds on fish, and could also be a antibacterial therapy. Its a fine product, which I have used sometimes with high-quality outcome. It is offered at any puppy retailer incuding Petco/Petsmart. Good success.
